GAME: - African Trap

EQUIPMENT - Nil

NUMBER - Any Number between 8 and 20

METHOD - Two Joey Scouts are chosen to be the trap and stand with their hands in the air to form an arch. The remaining Joey Scout walk under the arch singing: -

Lions and leopards, lions and leopards

Hunting at night

Lions and leopards, lions and leopards

Catch the game.

At the word “game” the trap falls and a Joey Scout is caught. When a second Joey Scout is caught, they form another trap until there is only one left.

GAME: - Ambidextrous Relay

EQUIPMENT - Nil

NUMBER - Any Number

METHOD - Have the Joey Scouts divide into two teams. On go the first team member hops to designated place on their left foot, then back again on their right foot. As they get back to their team they tag the next player who repeats this. Continue until all have had a turn.

GAME: - Animal, Bird, or Fish

EQUIPMENT - Beanbag Or Ball

NUMBER - Any Number

METHOD - The Joey Scouts form a circle. “It” sits in the centre. “It” calls out “Animal”, “Bird” or “Fish” and tosses the ball to a Joey Scout who has to the count of five to correctly name something of the name called out. Otherwise they become “it”.

GAME: - Animal Call

EQUIPMENT - 1 paper bag and 8 to 10 small objects (2.5cm) per team

NUMBER - Any Number between 4 and 20

METHOD - The Joey Scouts are divided into a number of teams. Each team is given an Animal name and sound and a captain is chosen. The small objects or nuts have been hidden around the playing area. Each team has to gather as many nuts as possible however only the captain may pick up the nuts. When a Joey Scout finds a nut they make the team sound until the captain has picked up the nuts. The captain must return to base after each pickup.

GAME: - Animal Relay

EQUIPMENT - Nil

NUMBER - Any Number between 4 and 20

METHOD - The Joey Scouts are divided into a number of teams. Each member of a team is allocated a different animal. They must then move across the hut in the style of that animal.

Donkey - Travelling on all fours to the goal and imitating the donkey's bray.

Duck - Walking on two feet in squat position squawking without stopping.

Lame Dog - Walking on two hands and one foot and barking.

Bear - Bent over standing on their hands and feet moves right and left foot together, and then left hand and right foot together.

Duck - Squatting down low, with knees spread, arms stretched out with their hands clasped in front of their legs below their knees.

Crab - Back toward the floor, supported on hands and feet, the feet facing forward.

Elephant - On hands and feet, with legs and arms absolutely rigid.

Frog - Feet spread with their knees outside their hands, which are together. Advancing by frog-like jumps, landing on hands at each leap, then bringing the feet up.

GAME: - Animal Snap

EQUIPMENT - Animal snap picture cards

NUMBER - Any Number

METHOD - Distribute these cards one to each Joey Scout and tell not to look at the picture. On the command go they must look at their card and by making the noise of that animal they must find all the other Joey Scouts in the hall with that card.

GAME: - Ankle Grasp

EQUIPMENT - Chalk

NUMBER - Any Number (2 to 4 at a time)

METHOD - Draw a circle 2-3 metres in diameter. The Joey Scouts enter the ring, stoop over and grasp their ankles. The object of the game is to push your opponents over or to make them let go of their ankles. The Joey Scouts are out of the game they steps out of the circle.

GAME: - Attack

Similar to Poison Ball

EQUIPMENT - Ball and rope for boundaries

NUMBER - Any Number between 4 and 20

METHOD - One Joey Scout throws the ball at the other Joey Scouts attempting to hit the others. The Joey Scout is hit is out. If the ball bounces before touching the other Joey Scouts, they are not out until only one is left who becomes the thrower in the next game

GAME: - Backwards Triple Race

EQUIPMENT - Nil

NUMBER - Any Number

METHOD - Divide the Joey Scouts into teams of three. The Joey Scouts link arms with the middle Joey Scout facing forward and the other two Joey Scouts facing backwards. The first intact team to finish wins.

GAME: - Backwards Walking Race

EQUIPMENT - Nil

NUMBER - Any Number

METHOD - Mark out a suitable course and line the Joey Scouts up with their backs to the finishing line. They then walk backwards to the line with no running or turning around.


GAME: - Balloons

EQUIPMENT - Balloons

NUMBER - Any Number

METHOD - Insert instructions into balloons (hop like a kangaroo, bark like a dog etc.) The Joey Scouts form a circle and pass the balloon around the circle until the leader calls Stop. The Joey Scout holding the balloon must break and carry out the instruction inside.

GAME: - Balloon Baseball

EQUIPMENT - Balloons, 'markers'

NUMBER - Any Number

METHOD - The Joey Scouts are divided into two teams. Each team designates a pitcher who pitches to their team. Each batter gets two pitches to hit a balloon with their fist. If the balloon is hit, the fielding team tries to blow the balloon to the ground before the batter runs around the bases. If they do not, a run is scored. Play continues until everyone on the batting team has been ‘up to bat’. Then the inning is over and teams switch places.

GAME: - Balloon Bust Relay

EQUIPMENT - 1/8 fill a balloon with confetti for each player.

NUMBER - Even Number between 4 and 12

METHOD - The Joey Scouts are divided into two equal teams. Give each player a balloon, they then run to the designated area and busts it, then runs back to their team, tagging the next Joey Scout who repeats this action.

GAME: - Balloon Bust Relay 2

EQUIPMENT - A balloon for each player.

NUMBER - Even Number between 4 and 12

METHOD - The Joey Scouts are divided into two equal teams. Give each player a balloon (you can put a lolly (Boiled or Minties are best) inside). The Joey Scouts runs up to the chair and sits on their balloon and busts it. They run back to their team, tagging the next Joey Scout who does the same.

GAME: - Balloon Soccer

EQUIPMENT - Balloon

NUMBER - Even Number between 4 and 12

METHOD - The Joey Scouts are divided into two equal teams. Each team line up facing each other with their feet touching the Joey Scout opposite. The idea is to hit the balloon over the heads of the other team so it hits the ground behind them. A Joey Scout from each team is chosen as a 'goalkeeper' and stands behind their team. . If the balloon touches the floor past the opposing team they score a point. The goalkeeper may move up and down and try to stop the balloon hitting the floor. Gradually introduce more and more balloons.

GAME: - Balloon Volleyball

EQUIPMENT - balloon, Chalk or rope for marking boundaries, string for net

NUMBER - Even Number between 4 and 12

METHOD - The Joey Scouts are divided into two equal teams. The teams line up facing each other with the net in the middle. The idea is to keep the balloon off the ground.

GAME: - Balloon Walk

EQUIPMENT - Balloons

NUMBER - Even Number between 4 and 20

METHOD - The Joey Scouts divide into two teams and line up behind each other. The first Joey Scout runs to the end, where they put a balloon between their knees and walk to the target where they drop the balloon into bucket. The next Joey Scout does the same. The most balloons in the bucket wins.

GAME: - Bandicoot Burrow

EQUIPMENT - Net or Similar

NUMBER - Even Number between 4 and 20

METHOD - The Joey Scouts are divided into two teams and split each team so they face each other about 20 feet (6 m) apart with the net in between. The first Joey Scout runs to the net, crawls under the net and tags their team mate. The next Joey Scout does the same.

GAME: - Bandicoot Race

EQUIPMENT - Foam Pole (pool noodle) or broom per team

NUMBER - Even Number between 4 and 20

METHOD - Two Joey Scouts straddle a pool noodle, back to back. On signal, one runs forward and the other runs backwards to a marker where they change roles (forward runner becomes backward runner) and returns to the start then the next two team members go.

GAME: - Bang Ball

Similar to Odd Ball

EQUIPMENT - ball

NUMBER - Any Number between 4 and 20

METHOD - The Joey Scouts from a circle with their feet are spread as far apart as possible. The Joey Scouts try to push the ball through the legs of the other Joey Scouts in the circle who try and stop it by using their arms only. If the ball through the legs of the Joey Scouts in the circle they can only use one hand next time, then if it happens again, they may use their head.

GAME: - Batless Baseball

EQUIPMENT - ball, 4 Chairs

NUMBER - Any Number between 8 and 28

METHOD - The Joey Scouts are divided into two equal teams. The chairs are set in the shape of a baseball diamond. Each Joey Scout on the batting team sits on the first base chair, throws the ball into play, and runs to first base. The Joey Scout can be caught or if the ball is on the chair before the Joey Scout reaches it then the Joey Scout is out. The fielding team can throw the ball only from a chair. A good variation is that the batting side, kicks a ball rolled by a pitcher.


GAME: - Battle

EQUIPMENT - 40 paper balls (approx), Chalk or rope for marking boundaries

NUMBER - Even Number between 4 and 12

METHOD - Divide the playing area into quarters with the chalk or rope, and split the group into four even teams. Hand out the pre-prepared paper balls evenly around the teams. On the leader’s call the teams throw the paper balls they have and then try to keep their own area clear by throwing any balls into another teams area. The winning team is the one with the least amount of snow in their area when the time is up. (The balls do take a long time to make, by screwing sheets of newspaper into a ball and wrapping them with adhesive tape, but they do last an awfully long time, so are worth the effort!)

Due to the throwing nature of this game the balls should only be replaced with similar soft objects, e.g. Sponge Balls.

GAME: - Battle Ball

EQUIPMENT - ball, Chalk or rope for marking boundaries

NUMBER - Even Number between 4 and 12

METHOD - The Joey Scouts are divided into two equal teams. Each Joey Scout is given a number and the teams line up facing each other with the ball in the middle. When a number is called the Joey Scouts with that number race to grab the ball. When one of the Joey Scouts reaches the ball, both freeze. The Joey Scout with the ball has one chance to hit the other for a point however if the other Joey Scout catches the ball they get the point.

GAME: - Bat the Balloon

EQUIPMENT - Balloons.

NUMBER - Even Number between 4 and 12

METHOD - The Joey Scouts are divided into two equal teams. Teams line up with members standing side by side, with their arms stretched sideways. Fingertips should touch between the Joey Scouts. The first Joey Scout in line takes and inflated balloon, and bats it towards the second Joey Scout in line, who bats it to the third Joey Scout, on down the line and back again. The only rule is this: the Joey Scouts cannot move their feet. If a balloon falls to the floor, or if someone moves their feet in an attempt to reach the balloon, the first Joey Scout in line must run and get the balloon, and take it back to the starting line to begin again.

GAME: - Beans

EQUIPMENT - Nil

NUMBER - Any Number between 4 and 20

METHOD - The Joey Scouts walk round then leader calls out a command and the Joey Scouts have to obey. The commands are jelly beans (wobble) running beans (they must run), dwarf beans (squat down), navy beans (pretend to row a boat), lean beans (walk on tip toes reaching up), broad beans (lie on floor with arms and legs out wide) jumping beans (jump), string beans (the Joey Scouts all hold hands), baked beans (all run to designated area) and canned beans ( they squash together).


GAME: - Blacksmiths

EQUIPMENT - Shoes

NUMBER - Any Number between 4 and 20

METHOD - Joey Scouts divide into two teams, pair off and line up about 5 metres from each other. The first team (the Blacksmiths) turns and faces away while the other Joey Scouts take off one of their shoes and puts them in the centre. The shoeless Joey Scouts get on their hands and knees. When the signal is given, the blacksmiths try to shoe their horse the change teams.

GAME: - Blindfolds

EQUIPMENT - Blindfolds and a set of keys or tin filled with marbles in it (Party favours are good)

NUMBER - Any Number above 4

METHOD - One Joey Scout is blindfolded and placed in a circle that the remainder of the Joey Scouts have formed. One Joey Scout is given a tin with a marble in it to shake (or noisy whistle to blow) and Another Joey Scout is the hunter. The hunter calls “Rattle” and the prey must reply by jangling the keys or tin. The prey may move within the circle to avoid the hunter but must rattle the tin while doing so. After the hunter has managed to find the prey (or after a couple of minutes) a new hunter is nominated and the old hunter becomes the prey.


GAME: - Blindfold Portraits

EQUIPMENT - Blu Tack, paper, Blindfolds and pencils

NUMBER - Any Number

METHOD - Blu tack sheets of paper to the wall. Blindfold the Joey Scouts and get to draw a simple object and get them to write their name on the bottom.
