UCB’s Development Department is a key function within the organisation and is responsible for ensuring effective partnerships are maintained to financially, prayerfully and practically support the implementation of the charity’s Strategic Plan.
The Strategic Partner Team’s purpose is to develop new and existing Strategic Partners’ interest in the impact of UCB’s work and engagement in UCB’s vision, and to provide a donor development journey through a range of funding opportunities. Strategic Partners are defined as donors with the capacity to give a single gift of at least £10,000.
This position sits within the Strategic Partner Team, but will also support wider work in developing other individuals’ interest and engagement with UCB.
Main Purpose of the Job
Our Strategic Partner Team is looking for an enthusiastic team member with excellent persuasive writing skills to implement and maintain a role in supporting the Development team meet its targets. The role will require rigorous discipline, professionalism and excellent attitude as we endeavour to build strong and lasting relationships with high calibre business people, politicians and philanthropists.
The main purpose of the Communications Copywriter is to research andwrite detailed proposals to encourage Strategic Partners to engage with UCB’s vision. The post holder will also support wider writing requirements across Direct Mail (print), email, web and broadcasting, helping to co-ordinate consistent messaging across all UCB platforms for bothongoing Fundraising campaigns and specific appeals.
Artwork co-ordination, distribution via appropriate channels and monitoring and evaluation will also be key parts of the role.
The post holder will be a committed Christian who will work as an Ambassador of Christ to deliver a distinctly Christian service to UCB and its supporters, who will be prepared to witness to the life changing message of Jesus and lead people to Christ as appropriate.

Reports to Head of Partnership Development.
Works closely with Strategic Partner team, Head of Individual Development and Individual Development team, Head of Marketing and Marketing team, Head of Radio and Radio team, TV team, Supporter Care team, external Design, Print and Mail Management suppliers.
Duties and Key Responsibilities:
Project Document Development
- To research UCB project needs from internal departments and external sources.
- Collate relevant project information and data.
- Produce first level draft of S P documentation, in many cases, tailored specifically for individuals or Trusts, including; Case for Support documents; Trust applications; individual proposals; and beneficiary testimonials.
- Oversee production of final draft documentation co-ordinating with internal and external resources.
- Liaise with the Finance team to present financial information.
Direct Mail (Print)
- To work with the Head of Individual Development to implement new Direct Mail programmes – including letters and supporting materials - to key segments on UCB’s Mailing List, including Lapsed Givers and Prospects (i.e. prospective donors).
- To be responsible for co-ordinating and generating content for Development in quarterly publications, UCB daily devotionals The UCB Word For Today and Word For You.
- To co-ordinate the integration of Direct Mail messaging with other platforms, such as Radio, TV and online, as appropriate.
- To oversee artwork co-ordination and approvals for the above materials.
- To generate process documents for UCB’s Direct Mail programme, such as print codes, mailing matrices and project planning documents.
- To assist with checking and approvals of Direct Mail letters and artwork, during the time these are being handled by the external Print and Mail Management supplier.
- To work closely with the Head of Individual Developmentand external Print and Mail Management supplier to ensure print materials are produced to the highest quality and sent out on time.
Email and Web
- To co-ordinate an annual Email Fundraising Plan for Development, linking in with other communication channels.
- To generate text and content for all appeal emails.
- To monitor and evaluate financial and non-financial response to all appeal emails.
- To co-ordinate and write Development campaign and appeal web pages, as and when required.
- To project manage the generation of email and web content for Development, working closely with UCB’s Marketing team.
Broadcasting (Radio and TV)
- Where required, ensure testimonies being used in wider Fundraising appeals are also recorded and/or filmed for UCB Radio and UCB TV.
- Co-ordinate scheduling for testimony recordings with UCB Radio and TV teams.
- Assist the Head of Individual Development as appropriate in the co-ordination of Fundraising radio ‘spots’ and other radio content.
Other
- General Activities
- Assist Strategic Partner Programme Co-ordinator in developing and maintaining the Stewardship programme for Strategic Partners.
- Be an active member of the Fundraising team contributing to planning, evaluation and creative ideas.
- Attend meetings and events as and when required.
- Such other duties as the management may from time to time reasonably require
- Respect and maintain the confidentiality of the processed material.
- Ensure all documents and letters are proofed for spelling grammar and correct information.
- Monitor budget for out sourced activity.
- Support event management within the team.
- To source appropriate testimonies to share as widely as possible with UCB readers, listeners and viewers; using these in relevant and engaging ways in the best possible manner for each platform.
- To undertake wider Fundraising research upon request.
- To provide information for Development reports and KPI monitoring.
- To ensure all products, materials and campaigns are fully consistent with Christian standards and principles and conform to UCB’s brand guidelines.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
Qualifications/Experience

- A good working knowledge of Microsoft office and Excel.
- Track record of being able to précis information.
- Ability to work on multiple projects to tight deadlines.
Desirable
- Educated to degree level (qualifications in English and maths).
- Working Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge and it’s Event management module.
- Fundraising, sales and/or marketing experience.
- Indesign or similar computer graphic design experience.
- Event Management experience.
