About the changing the country of origin in Tibetan spaniels.
We, as a club, are writing regarding the recent decision to transfer the Tibetan Spaniel’s (along with the other Tibetan Breeds) country of origin from Tibet to China.
It is our opinion thatchanging the country of origin is not only changing history, but blatantly disregarding it.
We feel strongly that, with this decision, the voting members at the FCI at the meeting in March 2015 have disregarded the real history of all of the breeds along with the hard work and enthusiasm of the pioneers, breed clubs, breeders and exhibitors of the breeds concerned.
We are even more concerned that the country of patronage is to be discussed at a later date. We find this unacceptable and cannot see any reason for debate or discussion of this matter. The history of the breed is clear – the breed was developed in the UK from a small number of dogs originating in Tibet during the first decades of the last century. It is, however, an ancient breed, with a well recognized history in the Buddhist Monasteries in Tibet. Tibet, when the breed originated, was an autonomous country & not part of China. We should not revise history.
As a Breed club we are discussing with the Swedish Kennel Club but also wish to raise it directly with you, the FCI so that you can put this on your agenda for discussion & review at the earliest possible opportunity.
We are disappointed that the FCI have not felt the need to discuss this with the Breed Clubs & their members to date – we hope that this will now be revisited. We are happy to provide any background information of the breed you may require.
