French AS-Level Induction Task 2015-16

We would like you to complete Tasks A and B, and then either Task C or Task D, bring them with you during your Careers interview after the GCSE results in August.

TASK A LA FRANCE

Print a map of France showing its regions and their names. Select five regions and find out a few key facts about their character (e.g. geography, principal industry, product or speciality) and the names of main cities.

TASK B REFRESH YOUR MEMORY!

Complete the exercises on the present, perfect and future tenses from Languages online, following this link: http://www.languagesonline.org.uk/

Select Français from left hand side of screen, then Grammar Units. Work through the following activities and write your own notes about how to form each tense.

Grammar
·  The Present Tense
·  The Perfect Tense (1)
·  The Perfect Tense (2)
·  The Future Tense

TASK C GAINING INDEPENDENCE

Use the Internet as a resource to dip in to the French media and find at least three articles of interest to bring in to share with the rest of the group. These could be news or magazine articles, radio reports or video clips.

The first two topics of the AS course are Relationships &Health and Lifestyle so these could be good starting points. Try searching for key words (e.g.la Famille, le Sport, la Santé) online, or on YouTube.

Try www.lefigaro.fr which is the online version of the popular newspaper Le Figaro.

You could use the Linguascope site to access French radio, or http://www.rfm.fr/

Keep a log of sites used, articles read, videos watched and time spent listening to the radio.

30 minutes a week is a good start!

TASK D CULTURAL RESEARCH

Use the Internet or a local library to find out about an artist, playwright, writer or composer from a French speaking country and prepare a 3 minute oral presentation about him/her (in English) to share with the rest of the group. You might consider finding out about their life and times, the influence of their work and your own views on any of their work you are familiar with. Anything that takes your interest!

A très bientôt, bonnes vacances! J Donald et C Bersot
