Dear Parents/ Carers,

This week we have:

·  Moved onto multiplying whole numbers by fractions, and begun to complete word problems around fractions;

·  Written a recount of our trip to Leeds Castle;

·  Eaten some Anglo-Saxon food (which unfortunately was a little burnt and the children made me aware of this!).

Next week we will be:

·  Finishing off our fraction topic by recapping the key concepts and carrying out an assessment;

·  Writing a recount of how Beowulf felt arriving at Heorot;

·  Finishing invasion games in outdoor PE, where we have been developing our ball skills.

This week for homework, I have set some English work to consolidate their knowledge from this week, which is organising ideas within and between paragraphs. This is to be in by Wednesday – well done everyone for bringing in their homework on time this week again. The children have got new spellings to learn, and as they are a day late going out, will be tested on the Thursday instead next week.

We went to Leeds Castle this week, and learnt about different periods in time, including Anglo-Saxons. The class also had a guided tour of the castle, and obviously got a chance in the maze! They all seemed to really benefit from this trip, and I hope that they enjoyed it.

Next Thursday 9th of February we will be visiting Swadelands for morning workshops involving healthy eating (until 12.00pm). We will be looking at what they eat at home and at school, and the importance of a balanced diet. The children will be experiencing a range of physical activities as well.

Wednesday 8th of February is book look for this term; I will not be in that day due to an NQT conference but Mrs Goswell will be available if you have any queries about anything.

Tuesday 7th of February is E-Safety day in which all lessons will revolve around this topic. As a class we will be looking at how to stay safe and the importance of this in greater detail. I have included a link to two videos which will be shown on the day to reiterate this point: https://www.nspcc.org.uk/preventing-abuse/keeping-children-safe/share-aware/ (Lucy and the Boy and I Saw Your Willy). It might be useful to show these to your children prior to the day, as they are sensitive subjects. If you have any concerns about the topics included, do not hesitate to speak to me beforehand.

Have a great weekend – only a few more days until half term!
