Users’ Instructions for Quantum Talking Desk Clock in Silver and Gray with backlit display, 2 alarms and calendar:type TIM-230-520-3840

Inserting the Batteries:

  • The battery compartment is curved and projects from the back of the clock. Slide the rectangular dooron the underside of the compartmentoutwards to remove the battery compartment door; retain the lid nearby and safely.
  • If replacing already installed batteries, pry them out with a finger or by inserting a nail-file or similar tool at one end. Place 4 quality, alkaline batteries size AA into the compartment, with each battery’s flat end against the metal springs. The clock will make two double beep sounds and the display will light up momentarily.
  • Replace the lid by sliding itback into its original slot and pushingit into place.

Getting to know your clock:

This clock has a large display of the time and date. It also has a thermometer and two alarms, one for weekdays and another for weekends. It will speak the time and temperature when the talking buttonon top is pressed.

The clock guides you though its setting functions with voice prompts and other feedback. These instructions will cover everything you need to know to set and operate your new clock.

The front of the clock has a large liquid crystal display (LCD) and 5 round setting buttons; there are also 2 sliding function switches on the back of the clock. There is a long button in the centre on top of the clock is for getting a time and temperature report at any time, and for “snoozing” an alarm.

The LCD lights up blue whenever the clock is in operation. The LCD displays the time in the upper section and in the lower section itdisplays: the name of the day at the top, the numbers of the month and day on the left, and the temperature on the right.

There are 5 circular buttons on the clock’s front, arranged vertically to the right of the LCD display. The middle button is larger than the others. Starting from the top, they are: Alarm/Clock button, for taking the clock in or out of its setting mode for the time, alarms and calendar settings; Set button, for selecting which setting you wish to change;Alarm On/Off button: this is the larger button in the middle, which turns the alarm on or off. The last 2 buttons are the Up button and Down buttons, with Down being at the bottom; they each increase or decrease the value of each clock’s feature as you set it.

At the back of the clock are 2 sliding switches, which enable you to select either High or Low volume and to express the temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit.

Setting the current time, calendars and alarms:

Setting the current time and calendar:

Press the top buttonon the right side markedAlarm/Clock, once. The clock will say, “Daily Alarm set”; the word “Daily” will flash in the top left corner of the screen. Press once more and the clock will say, “Weekend Alarm Set” and the word “Weekend” will flash at the top of the display. Press it a third time and you will hear, “Time Set”.

Now press the second button down, the Set button. The clock will say, “Hour Set”.

Press the 2 lowest buttons, markedUp and Down, to get to the desired hours value. The clock will report the changing value of the hours as you do this.

When the hours are set correctly, press button 2, the Set button, again. The clock will say, “Minute Set”. Use the Up and Down buttons to set the minutes to the required value; the clock will report the value of the minutes as it changes.

When you are satisfied with the time setting, press the Set button again. The clock will say, “Month set” and the month digit on the left will flash.

Note: when setting the calendar functions the clock does not speak the name or number of the month, day or year but it will beep for each change up or down.

Use the Up and Down buttons again to increase or decrease the number of the month until you reach the desired value.

Press the Set button again. The clock will say, “Day Set” and the day digits will flash. Use the Up and Down buttons again until the value of the dayiswhat you require.

Press the Set button once more. The clock will say “Year Set” and the 2 digits for the year will flash. Use the Up and Down buttons to set the year to its correct value.

When you are finished press Set once more and the clock will give two beeps to confirm it has left the setting mode.

Setting the alarms:

Press the Alarm/Clock button once. The clock will say “Daily Alarm Set” and the word “Daily” in the upper left corner of the display will flash.

Now press the second button down, the Set button. The clock will say, “Hour Set” and the hour digit will flash.

Use the Up and Down buttons again until the value of the hours is what you require.

Press the second button down, the Set button, once more. The clock will say, “Minute Set” and the minute digits will flash.

Use the Up and Down buttons again until the value of the minutes is what you require.

Press the top button marked Alarm/Clock again. The clock will say “Weekend Alarm Set” and the word “Weekend” in the left of the display will flash.

Press the second button down, the Set button. The clock will say, “Hour Set” and the hour digit will flash.

Use the Up and Down buttons again until the value of the hours is what you require.

Press the second button down, the Set button, once more. The clock will say, “Minute Set” and the minute digits will flash.

Use the Up and Down buttons again until the value of the minutes is what you require.

Press the top button again, the Alarm/Clock button. The clock will say, “Time Set”. Unless you wish to adjust the current time, by following the earlier time setting process, just press the Alarm/Clock button again. The clock will give 4 beeps to confirm it is leaving setting mode; the clock will then display the current time as well as the date and temperature.

Turning an alarm on or off:

The display will show the words “Daily” and/or “Weekly” whenever the alarms are live. Each word will disappear when its alarm is turned off.

Turn on an alarm by pressing the largermiddle button, marked Alarm On/Off. Press this buttononce and the Daily Alarmonly will be active; press the buttonagain quickly and the Weekend alarmonly will be active. Press the button once more and both Daily and WeekendAlarms will be active.

Press the same button a fourth time and all alarms will be turned off. The clock reports the alarms’ active status each time you press this button.

“Snoozing” the alarm:

The alarm consists of a constantly repeating report of time and temperature. To snooze the alarm for 10seconds, just press the long button on top of the clock. You can do this 6 more times, for a total of 70 minutes, and then the alarm shuts off.

Stopping the alarm:

To silence the alarm press the large round, Alarm On/Off button while it makes its alarm report.Doing so will also cancel that alarm for the future; the name of the alarm’s type, either “Daily” or “Weekend” will disappear from the display.

To make that alarm occur again the next day it is required, press the same button again; the clock will reset itself and the name of the alarm will reappear in the display.

The clock will confirm the resetting was successful by reporting it, for example, “Daily Alarm on; Weekend Alarm off”. The alarm will now sound again at the selected alarm time when that set time next comes around.

Selecting the volumelevel and temperature scale:

With the back of the clock towards you, locate the two sliding switches at the top of the clock, approximately 20mm below the Snooze/Talking button at the top and 40mm in from each side. The switch on the left is for the volume; slide it 5mm to the left for High or to the right for Low.

To select the temperature scale, locate the right hand switch. Move it 5mm to the left for Celsius and to the right for Fahrenheit.

Any Problems?

The clock’s sound volume will decrease and the display may become inoperative if the batteries need replacement. If the batteries’ are replaced and the clock still has a problem, kindly try resetting it: use a pen-tip or similar tool to press the small, circular, recessed button that is between the two sliding switches on the back of the clock near the top.

Your clock is warranted against manufacturing faults for 24 months from the date of its original supply, subject to normal use and care; abuse or modification voids this warranty, which does not cover the replacement of batteries. CNIB reserves the right to repair a defective clock under warranty or replace it with an identical model, or equivalent model if the original is no longer available.
