Information for ASTER images: Jordan

There are three folders:

lev 1a:

This folder contains original reconstructed unprocessed instrument data – there are seven images and each has a metadata file.

lev 1b:

This folder contains data that is registered radiance at the sensor – there are seven images and each has a metadata file.

ASTER georef:

There are 3 subfolders labeled VIS, SWIR and THRM

Use this data for further processing in Arc (using .tif file) or ENVI (using .tif or .hdr) or other applicable programs…

o  Folders contain: Geo-tiff and .hdr files for each of the seven ASTER images and all have been geo-referenced (WGS_1984_UTM_Zones 36 or 37) using ENVI 4.0. For information on how to geo-reference using ENVI see the following websites:

o  To name these files I used ast to denote them as aster images, then vis denotes what bands were used (vis, swir, thrm) and then the last three digits from the ASTER L1B data granule to denote which image it is, and finally georef or georef means that it has been geo-referenced.

o  Band Combinations Used

§  VIS: RGB = Bands 3-2-1 respectively

§  SWIR: RGB = Bands 4-6-8 respectively

§  THRM: RGB = Bands 13-12-10 respectively

o  I have played around with some of the intensity of the colors of the tif files so that they look good in Arc (only VIS). The .hdr files have not been altered besides being geo-referenced.

Individual Scene Data (obtained from metadata file)

The long ID # that is in blue is the 1b data ID number. The first data ID # (below) shows how to read the data ID # to read the acquisition and production dates, but all are provided. Below that are the geo-referenced files that relate to that particular image (each can be found in their respective folders). They are color coded with maroon = visible / light blue = swir / and orange = thermal. The band distinction can also be found within the name ‘astvis’ vs. ‘astswir’
