POST:Family Support Worker

SALARY:£19,000- 23,000 depending on experience

HOURS:35

LOCATION: Merseyside

RESPONSIBLE TO:Director

PURPOSE: Supporting vulnerable women asylum seekers, refugees and women who have been trafficked.

This is an opportunity to join a charity providing a variety of services for women asylum seekers/refugees and their children.

Duties:

  • Support women through their immigration case.
  • Advocate on service users behalf with, amongst others, social services, home office and immigration courts, Serco and other housing providers and education authorities.
  • Manage a large and complex caseload.
  • Be the Safeguarding Lead.
  • Provide person centred support and develop a care plan to assist women to achieve their identified goals.
  • Help service usersimprove confidence and independence.
  • Attend child protection conferences,LAC reviews and case conferences.
  • Support women to access health and well-being services.
  • Identify women that would benefitfrom support or education with parenting, life skills, ESOL, mental and physical well-being.
  • Refer and/or signpost women to other support or health services including counselling.
  • Undertake home visits and appointments at drop-in.
  • Support colleagues with the running of outreach services.
  • Network with other organisations to ensure good working partnerships, improve access to services and increase MRANG’s profile.
  • Use Lamplight case management systems to record all data and statistics and maintain a file management system.
  • Attend and speak at events on behalf of MRANG.
  • Manage and train casework volunteers and university placements.

Person Specification:

  • Have a working knowledge of asylum, trafficking, housing and the financial support rules for asylum seekers.
  • Have experience of supporting vulnerable women.
  • Be able to develop and manage a care plan.
  • Have the communication and interpersonal skills to successfully advocate with professionals on behalf of service users.
  • Demonstrate excellent written skills to produce letters and written reports for MRANG and other professionals.
  • Be able to manage a large varied and complex caseload using a case management system.
  • Have the level of safeguarding knowledge and experience to be the safeguard lead.
  • Work well with colleagues to share learning and help improve and increase the work of MRANG.
  • Have the ability to plan work for, train and supervise volunteers.
  • Be able to drive and have use of a car.
