JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: INKS AND COATINGS MANAGER

STATUS:

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Manufacturing Manager

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises employees in the Ink Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

SUMMARY: Responsible for supplying the pressroom with all applied materials required for the manufacture of our product line.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

·  The primary responsibilities are in the technical development, purchasing, converting, blending, working with graphics in color control and quality of the applied materials. These materials include a broad category of inks, lacquers, adhesives, and solvents.

·  Responsible for zero color match program.

·  Process improvements driven by system improvements and procedures.

·  Training of all ink techs on applied materials and basic application of the products in the process. Ink 101, Cold Seal, Dry Bond, etc..

·  R&D for new applied materials.

·  Assist with applied material trials, sign off on trials and ensure no cost material when applicable.

·  Supply updated quarterly wet good pricing index for the pricing department.

·  Handle regulatory request associated with applied materials.

·  Create BOM’s for Tobacco applications and update Tobacco database. Check ink for PI approval.

·  Purchasing Manager for applied materials.

·  Review and sign off on design plans

·  Create raw material numbers or formulas for new products

·  Contract/price negotiations with suppliers.

·  Update pricing in SPEC software

·  Review price variances with invoices

·  Establishment of quality standards for applied materials.

·  Inventory control.

·  Hazardous waste Manager, which includes conducting daily hazardous waste and accumulation storage inspections.

·  Provide a safe work environment and maintain the safety focus for the department.

·  Create department work schedules

·  Review and approve payroll for the ink department

·  In this described position, you are required to be a member of APC’s Division Leadership Team. The Division Leadership Team has been designated as our Food Safety Team. Members of the Division Leadership Team are responsible to ensure that fundamental food safety practices are adopted and maintained. The Division Leadership Team also ensures that adequate resources are available to achieve food safety objectives and support the development, implementation, maintenance and ongoing improvement of SQF System. The Manufacturing Manager is the designated backup for the Ink and Coatings Manager.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; and 2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

FOOD SAFETY TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Food Safety Training, consisting of the GMP/PPE/Food Safety Policy, HACCP Plan and SQF System is provided to all personnel at the time of hiring. Refresher training is completed annually, based on the anniversary month of the employee’s date of hire. Completion of this training is a condition of employment.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Exposure to pumps and mixers in the blending area. Also exposure to mechanical equipment in the pressroom.
