General Meeting Minutes

·  President’s Report – (No President so Laurie Barnard presented)

- Meet the Board

- Went around the room and did introductions.

- Upcoming Events

- 5K and School Picnic – 9/23/17

- Field Day

- In need of volunteers for these events!

- Christine Barone handed out a flyer of Field Day.

- President Seat is Currently Vacant

- We asked if there was anyone interested in the being PTO President.

- Nobody at the meeting volunteered to be PTO President.

·  Treasurer’s Report – Laurie Barnard

- We reviewed the budget line by line.


- Laurie gave a brief description of the events we host:

- Assemblies

- Spelling Bee/Book Bowl/Geography Bowl

- Staff Appreciation Gifts and Meals

- 10 year Anniversary Celebration

- Deb Lyons gave an update on the 10-Year Celebration schedule

- Mural

- Celebration – including cake, etc.

- Paul Olson’s family wants to be involved.

- Green School will be emphasized.

- School Improvement Grant this year went to purchase mascot Swimmy.

- Promoted Amazon Smiles.

- Adding Grounds and Maintenance back in to the budget.

- We asked for volunteers to help with the shed maintenance.

- Voted to adopt the budget.

- Favor – 28 Votes

- Not in Favor – Votes

- The PTO Budget was adopted.

·  VP Volunteer Report – VP of Volunteer was not present (Katie Spelsberg and Angie Palmer)

- Discussed Volunteer Opportunities:

- SPLASH

- Event is in March.

- Start working on in Jan/Feb.

- We are looking for someone to head up the event.


- Staff Appreciation

- Week in May.

- Work with the VP’s of Social.

- 5th Grade Graduation

- 4th grade parents run this event.

- Olson Staff (Kris Kolbert) assists with the event.

- Green Team

- Improve landscaping at Olson.

- Cub Scouts assist with many of the tasks.

- Book Fair

- Event was highly successful last year.

- One day sale.

- Picture Day

- Help prep kids before their pictures on Picture Day.

- Volunteers get free pictures for their kids.

- PTO Board

- We are looking for new members for the PTO Board.

- Sign-up sheet was passed around to get contact information if interested.

·  Fundraising Report – Eric Steffen and Clare Thostenson

- We are in need of volunteers for 5K and School Picnic Saturday.

·  District Liaison Report – Jennifer Conway

- Jennifer would like a co-chair for this. Please let us know if interested.

- Position involves attending Westside PTO and District Level meetings.

- No meetings to report on yet.

·  Principal’s Report – Deb Lyons

- All School Assembly

- Thank you for the support.

- Anti-Bullying Theme.

- BMX biker presented.

- Went very well and everyone enjoyed it.

- New Math Program – Bridges was introduced this year.

- Seems to be going well so far.

- Keeps more consistency with grade level teachers.

- All aligned with common core methods.

- Not very different from the way we currently teach math – just more consistent.

- Field Day is coming up and volunteers are still needed.

- Assessments (District and State level) are in full swing.

- Deb will present SIP, Demographics, etc. at next PTO General Meeting.
