Trefor Lloyd is the founder and development worker for the Boys Development Project. In the last five years his work has increasingly targeted boys in primary and early years, and has involved the development of a range of methods and approaches that effectively target and engage boys.
His current work includes developing and delivering interventions targeting boys who are struggling to settle in reception and year 1 (Stand Out Boys Project); training facilitators for the About Boys Course ABC (which targetsmothers of boys under 11, and aims to increase their understanding, confidence and skills in getting the best from their son’s), and delivering programmes targeting parents in preparing their sons for school.
While his primary focus is on interventions with boys (under 11) and their parents, he still maintains an interest in a broad range of work areas impacting on boys and young men.
He is Research Consultant to the Centre for Young Men’s Studies (at Ulster University) and when he was Director at Working With Men (2004-2009) and of WWM (1990-2004) he developed innovative programmes addressing young men and health; conflict resolution; violence and issues related to boys underachievement.
He maintains a research and academic interest, so for examplein 2009 he was an associate of the Centre for Young Men’s Studies at Ulster University, Belfast where he carried out qualitative investigations into young men’s attitudes towards conflict, violence and safety as well as teachers views and experiences of boy’s and underachievement.
