NAMED 2013 FIVE STAR WEALTH MANAGER WINNER
Goelzer Investment Management, a full service investment management and advisory firm headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, is proud to congratulate Tom Maurath who recently was named as a top investment manager in the 2013 Indianapolis Monthly Five Star Wealth Managers of the Year Award. The Five Star Wealth Manager award recognizes top investment managers in Indianapolis. Tom, along with five other Goelzer investment professionals, were featured in the October issue of Indianapolis Monthly Magazine.
Tom Maurath is a Senior Vice President and Portfolio Manager and is co-manager of Goelzer Investment Management’s Core Growth Equity and Strategic Asset Allocation strategies. Tom Joined Goelzer in 2005 with over 29 years of investment advisory and portfolio management experience. He is a respected member of the firm’s Executive Management Committee and also serves on the Investment Policy and Securities Selection & Review Committees and guides the firm’s small and mid cap equity investment strategies.
In 1984, Tom co-founded Indianapolis-based Heartland Capital Management, Inc., an SEC-registered investment adviser serving individual and institutional clients. As a Managing Director, Portfolio Manager, and Securities Analyst, he helped guide the firm to nearly $1 billion under management within 10 years. Heartland received the “Company of the Year Award” in 1990 from the Indianapolis Business Journal, which also honored Tom as one of its “Forty Under 40” business leaders in 1991. Heartland and its Pinnacle Mutual Fund were acquired by Fifth Third Bank of Cincinnati in 1997. Tom continued as President and Portfolio Manager of the Pinnacle Fund until it became a part of the Bank’s mutual fund family. Tom was promoted to Managing Director of the Bank’s Investment Management Division in 2001, while also chairing the Division’s Investment Selection Committee.
In 2009, 2012 and 2013, Tom was recognized by Indianapolis Monthly Magazine as a “FIVE STAR in Client Satisfaction Wealth Manager” for the Indianapolis market. Tom holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from the University of Notre Dame and graduated cum laude with an Masters of Business Administration from Indiana University’s Graduate School of Business.
A Chartered Financial Analyst (“CFA”), Tom’s professional memberships include the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Indianapolis, where he served as a member of the Board of Directors. He has also served on the Boards of the Reese Foundation of Indiana University and Habitat for Humanity of Hamilton County. He is currently a member of the Notre Dame Club of Indianapolis and attends Holy Spirit at Geist.

A distinguished honor, the 2013 Indianapolis Monthly Five Star Wealth Manager rankings are determined by surveying consumers, financial service professionals, and Indianapolis Monthly subscribers. With more than 8,400 wealth managers in the Indianapolis area, those selected were ranked on the following criteria; customer service, integrity, knowledge/expertise, communication, value for fee charged, meeting of financial objectives, post-sale service, quality of recommendations and overall satisfaction. Only wealth managers with more than 5 years of experience in the financial services industry were considered.
“There is over 9,000 wealth managers in the Indianapolis area and the Five Star Professional research team applies a vigorous research and evaluation process to identify service professionals who provide quality services to their clients. The award never goes to more than the top 7%, but this year you have to be below the top 4% to even qualify,” says Jason Meyer, a Five Star Professional.
