Installation Instructions for Office 97 SR-2 Patch

These directions will help you install the Office 97 SR-2 Patch. The entire installation process takes approximately 15 minutes. It is recommended that you print these instructions prior to beginning the installation process. If you encounter problems, or are uncomfortable installing this software, please contact your local technical support center.

The following steps have you close all open applications.

  1. Close or disable all open applications. An open application is anything that shows on the bottom toolbar or in the box at the bottom next to the clock. Some frequently open applications include – Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect (a computer with squiggly line on the screen), Quarterdeck CleanSweep Install Monitor (a computer with sunglasses on top) and/or Hot sync monitor (Red and Blue arrows inside a circle). To disable or close, right-click on each icon and selectDisable, Close or Exit from the pop-up menu.
  1. If you use the Office Toolbar, right-click on the toolbar and select Close.

The following steps have you check your current version of Office 97. You must already have Office 97 SR1 on your computer to install the SR2 patch.

  1. Copy the following files from some designated location on the network to your desktop. For the purposes of this test – you should download these files from Orion to your desktop. The files that you need to copy/download are sr2chk.exe, sraof97.exe, xl8p4pkg.exe
  1. Double-click on the sr2chk.exe file on your desktop.
  1. Click Yes at the license agreement screen.
  1. Click OK at the message "Your system has Office 97 SR-1 installed. You can run the SR-2 patch."
  1. If you get a messages that says you can not run the SR-2 patch, contact your local technical support center.

In these steps you'll install the Office 97 SR-2 patch.

  1. Double-click on the sr2aof97.exe file on your desktop.
  1. Click Yes when prompted "Do you want to install Microsoft Office 97 SR-2a?"
  1. Click Yes at the licensing agreement screen.
  1. Enter the following Product ID # when prompted. 53491-270-7111812-16134.
  1. Click OK.
  1. You will be prompted to verify that all Microsoft Office 97 applications are shut down. Verify that all Office 97 applications are shut down.
  1. Click OK.
  1. Click OK to accept the location of the log file.
  1. Click Yes to restart.

In these final steps you will install the Excel 97 SR-2 Call Function Patch and delete the SR2 patch files.

  1. Double-click on the xl8p4pkg.exe file on your Windows desktop.
  1. Click Yes when prompted "Do you want to install the Excel 97 SR-2 Call function Patch?"
  1. Click Yes at the licensing agreement screen.
  1. Click OK to accept the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office path when prompted "Where would you like to install the Excel 97 SR-2 Call Function Patch?"
  1. Click Yes to run the patch when prompted "Patch installed successfully. Do you want to run the patch now?"
  1. Click OK at the message, "Microsoft Excel 97 Call Function Patch has been patched successfully".
  1. Delete the files, sr2chk.exe, sraof97.exe and xl8p4pkg.exe, from your Windows Desktop that were copied or downloaded in Step 3.

Congratulations you have successfully applied the Office 97 SR-2 patch and the Excel 97 SR-2 Call Function patch.

** Note **

The Help -> About screen in Excel 97 will show Excel 97 SR-2(f) after the Call Function patch has been appied.
