MC19/1718 LEAGUE SECRETARY
(a) Statement from Paul Hockey, Hon. Sec, FC Barometrics on the present situation at Newlands Park.
Paul Hockey was invited to attend the League Management Committee meeting to explain to the Committee the present situation with regard to difficulties they are experiencing with the owners of the Newlands complex.
Paul began by outlining the background to the problems they are facing. FC Barometrics started life as a Sunday morning club but with the demise of the Cheltenham Sunday League they became a saturday club and through promotion in the Cheltenham League became members of the GNSL, the Club being in existence now for 42 seasons.
The Newlands complex was originally owned by Smiths Industries but the Club had no particular allegiance to Smiths as they only rented the facilities from them.
The complex was bought by Cheltenham Rugby Club and as such they quickly lost their pitch which was adjacent to the changing rooms to make way for a new rugby pitch with floodlights. This meant that they were moved some considerable distance away from the changing rooms at the far end of the ground and as such had to ask the GNSL for special dispensation to remain in the League at the complex under these new conditions. The GNSL, at their May 2017 AGM, granted the Club one further season but after the conclusion of the 2017-18 season they may have to consider moving away if the situation has not changed.
David Purser attended a meeting with FC Barometrics and Cheltenham Rugby Club representatives where plans were outlined to construct a new changing accommodation adjacent to the middle pitch which has not been commenced as yet.
Mr Hockey explained that the ambition of the Club was to gain promotion to the Glos County League and a decision has to be made shortly by his club whether to stay or leave the Newlands complex.
However relations between FC Barometrics and Cheltenham Rugby Club are not good at the present time as the rugby club re-seeded the goalmouths near to the start of the season which meant that the Club could not use their pitch in early season and are now in a dispute over a debt the Rugby Club claim has not been paid. A meeting to discuss the situation has been arranged for this coming Tuesday 17th October 2107.
He felt that there was a 95% chance that FC Barometrics would not be playing at Newlands next season and are currently looking to relocate to another ground. They have two possibilities in mind one of which is the Bishops Cleeve Playing Fields and he asked the Committee if they needed to move there sooner, such as this season, would there a problem as far as the League was concerned. The Committee informed him that the ground and facilities would need to be inspected but if deemed to be acceptable to the GNSL then there would not be a problem as far as the League was concerned.
Paul thanked the Committee for their time and left the meeting.
(b) Exclusion of Newent Town AFC from the GNSL.
The meeting discussed the exclusion of Newent Town AFC in the Special General
Meeting held immediately prior to the Management Committee meeting.
The result to the ballot being:- Votes Cast – 41, Votes to exclude Newent Town from the GNSL - 28, Votes for Newent Town to remain in the GNSL – 13.
Consequently Newent Town were excluded from membership of the League under Rule 17(a) with a majority of two thirds of the votes cast.
The Secretary was asked to confirm this with the Club and also inform the GFA.
(c) Late arrival of Referee Gary Norris to the Abbeymead Rovers v Falcons match on Sat 7th October 2017.
Referee Gary Norris was officiating at Abbeymead Rovers ground in Windfall Way on Sat 7th October 2017, as such he put the post code of the ground into his Sat-Nav but it took him nowhere near the ground and because of this the game kicked off late.
The Committee asked the Secretary to check the post code with the Abbeymead Rovers Club.
Author’s Note:
Mr Green took the matter up with Alan Bonehill who told him that the post code in the Handbook was incorrect, it should be:-
GL2 0RP not GL2 0RD
All Clubs and Referees are therefore asked to amend their Handbooks accordingly.
