Junior C.L.A.W. SQUAD

The Junior C.L.A.W. Squad’s purpose is to create a feeder program for the competitive cheerleading program at Duluth High School. Male and female athletes will compete on a GHSA competition mat at 4 competitions offered at local high schools and follow GHSA rules and regulations. This will allow our cluster’s athletes to learn the skills, style and judging criteria needed to be competitive at the high school level.

Who? Athletes must live in the Duluth District. Upcoming 6th, 7th and 8th graders are all eligible. The size of the team will be determined based on skill at try-outs.

When? An informational meeting will be held at 8pm on April 17th at CDA. A try-out will be held on April 18th 6-8pm at CDA (Duluth). Please wear black shorts and a white top. Practices will befrom June through October with the exact days to be determined. Competitions will be in September and October on four scheduled Saturdays.

Cost?

  • Try-out Fee$25 due 1st day of try-outs
  • Tumbling/Coaching/Team Practicefee $80/month (June through October)

due the 1st of each month($400 total fee)

  • Choreography/Music$200 due July 1st
  • Competition Fees$40 due August 1st

Can I still do All-stars/Rec? YES, and you should to keep up skills year-round! Although we can't promise the schedule of another gym, we can assure you Jayhawks teams will be scheduled around Junior CLAW’s assigned practices. There will be two weekday practices in the fall to schedule your other activities around.

The Junior CLAW SQUAD will be organized and coached by Cheer & Dance Atlanta’s staff in line with the criteria required for Duluth High School teams. We look forward to assisting in growing and strengthening the competitive cheerleading program in the Duluth Cluster.

CLAW SQUAD CONSTITUTION

I.Requirements

A.Each cheerleader must live in the Duluth Cluster grades 6th-8th.

B.Each cheerleader must be physically able to participate in long periods of

vigorous activity with undue fatigue or pain. These activities include stunting, cheering, tumbling, conditioning, and running.

C.Each cheerleader must carry insurance or sign a waiver form and have a yearly physical examination.

D.Each cheerleader must be cooperative and respectful towards coaches, teachers, fellow students, and teammates.

E.Each cheerleader is expected to be a LEADER on her squad and in the school and community.

F.Each cheerleader must abide by the rules and guidelines that are presented in this document.

II.Uniforms

A.All uniforms will be issued at the beginning of the season. Any uniform lost,

stolen or damaged will be paid for by the cheerleader.

B.Care of uniforms is to be excellent at all times.

C.Uniforms or any part of any uniforms are to be worn only during games unless the coach grants permission for them to be worn elsewhere. Do not let anyoneborrow your uniform or any spirit wear items.

D.Uniforms will be returned by the cheerleader in proper condition after the season ends. Failure to do so will result in a fee.

E.Do not alter your uniform unless the sponsor has approved it.

  1. ALL cheerleaders are expected to wear a black, racer back sports bra and white no show socks

with uniforms.

III.Safety

A.Jewelry cannot be worn while participating in cheer activities.

B.Hair must be pulled back securely with elastic bands.

C.Fingernails should be kept short and fingernail polish may not be worn during performances. No artificial nails are allowed.

D.No stunting or tumbling unless under the direct supervision of a coach.

E.Appropriate clothing and shoes must be worn at all times. No midriffs. Any cheerleader not properly dressed for practice may not be allowed to participate that day. This will be counted as an unexcused absence.

F.No chewing gum, etc... while engaging in cheer activities.

IV.Attendance

  1. Attendance is mandatory and any absences must be cleared in advance by the team coach OR excused with a doctor’s note only.
  2. Excessive absences could result in dismissal without refund from the squad.

V. Leadership

Each cheerleader is expected to be a leader in the school and community.

  1. Cheerleaders should be dressed appropriately at all times.
  2. Cheerleaders should act respectfully to all adults at all times.
  3. Cheerleaders are not to engage in reckless or unlawful activities.
  4. Cheerleaders should be an example to other students and should exemplify the standards of Duluthat all times.
  5. Duluthprides itself on good sportsmanship and character. Our cluster is well known not only locally and state wide, but has also been recognized nationally. We have a solid reputation for enthusiasm in all areas of participation. Cheerleading is no different. Participants in our organization will be held to certain standards, as they are role models in the community and ambassadors for their sport. Appropriate behavior and positive representation of the school are expected at all times. Any violation of the constitution, inappropriate conduct or comments from a cheerleader or their parent may result in dismissal from the squad for the remainder of the season without refund.

VI. Management:

Although the Junior CLAW SQUAD is a feeder for DHS and supported by the cluster, all team decisions, coaching decisions and financial matters should be directed to and made by Cheer & Dance Atlanta.
