The University: CaliforniaStateUniversity, Los Angeles, one of 23 campuses of the CaliforniaStateUniversity system, was founded in 1947. The University is located at the eastern edge of the city of Los Angeles and adjacent to the western San Gabriel Valley, with more than 19,000 students reflecting the rich ethnic diversity of the area.
The Position:The Executive Director of The California Forensic Science Institute reports to the Dean of the College of Health and Human Services, and provides advice and support to the University in
implementing the Institute's mission and goals which include: participating in curriculum development in an advisory capacity with CSULA faculty in creating degree and continuing education programs that address crime lab needs and meet University requirements;creating a process for CSULA students interested in careers in forensic science to find internships, employment and other career information;enhancing communication between crime labs and CSULA enabling them to find subject matter experts who can assist by working on specific projects and research; providing technical assistance to CSULA faculty in identifying and preparing forensic science federal grant applications and other contract resources; coordinating fund raising in support of the California Forensic Science Institute; conducting external relations program to inform the public and garner support for the California Forensic Science Institute and the CSULA-LAPD-LASD partnership. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience:A master's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 5 years of work experience in Forensic Science, three of which shall be in an administrative/leadership position, preferably in an education environment.Preference shall be given to candidates who hold a doctoral degree and who are active in professional associations and have a track record in successful fund development and grant writing. The incumbent will provide leadership in planning the Institute's activities;represent and serve the Institute on an ongoing basis and in ways that reflect positively on the campus; assure that the Institute operates in accordance with all current University policies; follow the procedures described in the document, "Operation of Presidentially Chartered Centers, Institutes and Bureaus;" prepare the annual report for presentation to the Institute's Oversight Administrators; and write the self-study in the Fall Quarter of the year in which a formal
review takes place and otherwise assure a timely, effective review process.Must have effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Ability to: interact with all levels of the organization; act decisively under stressful situations; and the ability and/or interest in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. Fingerprinting will be taken and checked by the California Department of Justice and FBI.

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. A comprehensive benefits package is provided.
Appointment: The Administrator III appointment will be made under the guidelines for management and supervisory employees of the California State University. All rights and benefits associated with this appointment are governed by the Management Personnel Plan.
This position is a “designated position” in the California State University’s Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.
