SDN Brighter Futures Early Intervention Program

Parent Information

Sometimes a little extra help is all that is needed to prevent family problems fromgrowing into a critical and stressful situation.

This program is for families who are either expecting a child or have children aged eight years or younger, who face specific problems such as: domestic violence, drug or alcohol problems, mental health issues, lack of family support or social support, parental learning difficulties, intellectual disability, child behaviour management problems or lack of parenting skills/inadequate supervision.

Services available under the program include:

  • Home visiting
  • Parenting programs
  • Quality playgroups
  • Early intervention worker

Do not be concerned if you have been approached by a teacher, child care worker, early childhood nurse, midwife, counsellor or an agency, asking if you would like to participate. The program could offer important benefits for your child and family and it is definitely worth considering.

Participation in the program is entirely voluntary. Whether or not you decide to take part, accept specific services or to continue once you have started, is completely up to you. Your privacy and confidentiality will be respected.Please be aware that your referral information will be sent to DoCS to determine your eligibility to participate in the Early Intervention Program.

This program respects the fact that you are the expert when it comes to your family. So you will be involved in decisions about which services are provided and what you want to achieve for your family.

The approach used in early intervention casework highlights prevention,welfare, wellbeing and builds on your families’ strengths. The early intervention caseworker works with your family to develop a tailored package of support and helps to coordinate services and resources.

Once you and your family no longer needed the support of the early intervention program, we will assist your family to leave the service andsupport you to use the strengths and resources you have built whilst you have been in our program.
