SECTION 2

Job purpose: To enhance the quantity and quality of Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and British Library-related material and articles on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia Foundation projects

Key areas of responsibility

·  To encourage and increase the direct participation of S&C staff in the provision of content for Wikipedia.

·  To develop new articles and edit existing entries relating to AHRC projects and British Library items and collections on Wikipedia, in conjunction with curators and other colleagues.

·  To test and implement processes for exploiting the British Library's Access and Re-use of Digital Collections Policy within Wikimedia Foundation projects.

·  To establish links between S&C curatorial staff and Wikipedia volunteers.

·  To cultivate the relationship between Wikimedia UK and the AHRC/British Library with a view to creating possible joint projects.

Main tasks

·  To undertake a review of British Library and AHRC-related Wikipedia articles, working closely with the S&C Web & Intranet Co-ordinator.

·  To create and enhance a selection of British Library and AHRC-related Wikipedia articles.

·  To liaise with curators from across S&C and volunteers from Wikimedia to develop a programme for creating Wikipedia articles.

·  To arrange and deliver several workshops for AHRC award holders and public workshops on the practice of Wikipedia editing.

·  To encourage and support S&C curators and AHRC award holders to edit and create new content for Wikipedia.

·  To provide training and best-practice guidance on Wikipedia editing and Wikimedia volunteer engagement for British Library staff by means of presentations and direct instruction.

·  To produce a summary report on the outcomes of the residency.

·  Expected to demonstrate a willingness to take on a range of tasks and to develop new skills, as appropriate, in own or other departments/directorates to support the delivery of the Library's services as required by line management

Minimum requirements (essential)

·  A degree or equivalent qualification.

·  Exceptional knowledge of Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects, with demonstrable experience in editing Wikipedia and communicating with other Wikipedians.

·  Good understanding of the activities and strategic motivations of Wikimedia UK, the AHRC and the British Library.

·  Familiarity with social networking as a means to disseminating information to a wide audience.

·  Good understanding of AHRC projects and the significance of the British Library's collections.

·  The ability to work closely and collaboratively with a broad range of people with different levels of skill and knowledge.

·  Strong IT skills.

·  The ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, at all levels and to discuss complex and sensitive issues with a wide range of people.

Additional requirements (desirable)

·  Experience of providing guidance and/or training to others.

·  Experience of editing images for the web

This is a 6 month fixed term role.
