Volunteer Role – Bournemouth SST
Overall Aim of Post:
To form as part of the team in order to reduce rough sleeping in Bournemouth through assertive outreach, needs assessment, access to accommodation, advice and assistance.
Management Accountability:
Team Leader and Volunteer Co-ordinator
Role Activities:
· To participate in a pattern of various parts of the rota in order to gain an insight into the different aspects of the Street Services Team.
· To establish early contact with new rough sleepers through outreach.
· To identify and target entrenched rough sleepers, including those unwilling to engage with services.
· To maintain accurate and comprehensive records on clients shared with appropriate agencies including the Police, when necessary.
· To persuade rough sleepers to move off the streets and into accommodation wherever possible.
· To assess the needs of rough sleepers, involving specialist agencies where appropriate.
· To participate in street counts where required.
· To promote positive messages about rough sleepers and single homeless people, in order to raise public awareness and concern.
· To assist at the daily drop-in and engage with rough sleepers.
· To maintain effective record keeping in accordance with the requirements of CRI and Bournemouth Borough Council.
· To ensure client confidentiality this is compatible with the effective sharing of information with appropriate agencies, to achieve the best outcome for clients.
· To participate in supervision sessions.
· To work pro-actively with local authorities and teams in other areas across the country, order to enable clients to return to their home/area with support where necessary.
· To network with local relevant staff.
