Discussions/questions:
There are a variety of ways to get our message out to the public, i.e. newsletters, social media /Facebook and we must consider them all in order to have the widest reach.
What messages should the locality planning group be sharing?
  1. Story of Girvan Community Hospital
  1. Positive local stories which illustrate health and social care integration
It was emphasised thatit is the job as a locality planning group to action the communications that we chose to prioritise. It was agreed that some additional resources may be required to do this and Phil white agreed to source potential resources.
Ronnie Sinclair suggested that he and Dawn ask partners how they currently communicate to the wider public. Once collected this information should be collated for the locality planning group
It was agreed that communication is crucial. If Girvan and South Carrick Villages are to be an informed community, then it needsto understand the budgets and the challenges faced, alongside the opportunities that integration brings.

Discussion /Questions
Q. Do you have to use your personal Facebook account when using Facebook within libraries?
  1. Yes
The group discussed the wide range of opportunities provided by South Ayrshires libraries. There is a strong evidence base that libraries and books enhance people’s wellbeing, informally through challenging social isolation and formally through known theories such as Bibliotherapy which usesbooks to aid people in solving the issues that they may be facing at a particular time.

Southwest Patient Profiling Information
Locality Planning Group - Standing Orders and Terms of Reference
Strategic Plan refresh- and budget update
Sub Group- feedback
Small grants
Our Voice
AOCB / Hal Maxwell presented Southwest Patient Profiling Information. This primary care information covers 9,566 patients registered with 3 practices in Girvan and Ballantrae and explores;
  • Age Breakdown
  • Deprivation Rankings
  • Disease Prevalence
  • Patients with more than one Health Condition
The information provided indicates that South Carrick by and large follows the same trends as South Ayrshire as a whole. There is a skew across the 3 GP practices towards an older population (65yrs plus) which in turn poses some challenges for the locality regarding economic activityand meeting the greater health needs that the demographic highlights.
The presentation compliments the profiling information previously presented which covered
  • Population and Area
  • Economy labour market benefits and poverty
  • Housing
  • Education skills and training
  • Health
Discussion
Locality information is currently being developed by Health Improvement Colleagues – once this information is collated it can be presented to the group.
There’s lots we can learn from practices which will help us as a group to address health inequalities and better understand local issues
One example of supporting the fragile infrastructure within primary care and strain on GPs is to have Pharmacists in situ in GP practices.
