Chairperson Advert
Trafford Borough Aquatic Network is seeking a new Chairperson to lead this national award winning network. The Chairperson provides direction and support to the network group made up of Chairs and Head Coaches of each of the Borough Aquatic Clubs, a representative from Trafford Leisure and a representative from the National Governing Body for Swimming – the Amateur Swimming Association. The network meets 4 times per year on a quarterly basis and meetings are held within Trafford Leisure Support Office at Marsland House in Sale. These meetings generally last for a maximum of two hours and the average monthly commitment for the Chairperson is somewhere between 3 and 5 hours.

CHAIRPERSON
Role description and person specification
The Chairperson has a strategic role to play in representing the networks vision and purpose to provide quality aquatic opportunities to the people of Trafford. The Chairperson ensures that the network members function properly, that there is full and meaningful participation at the meetings and that all relevant matters are discussed, decisions made and there is effective follow up of any actions.
Ensure that the network functions properly:
- To plan and run meetings in accordance with the Network Swim21 Development Plan
- To ensure that matters are dealt with in an orderly, efficient manner
- To bring impartiality and objectivity to meetings and decision making
- To facilitate changes and address any conflict between network members
Ensure than the network is managed effectively:
- To liaise directly with Trafford Leisure and the ASA, as appropriate, to keep an overview of Trafford Leisure business’ aims and objectives
- To co-ordinate with network members to ensure that responsibilities outlined in the partnership agreement are being met
Represent the network:
- To communicate effectively the vision and purpose of the network
- To advocate and represent the network at external meetings and events
- To be aware of current issues locally and nationally that may affect the network
Qualities and skills required:
- Excellent leadership skills
- Great communication and interpersonal skills
- Impartiality, fairness and the ability to respect confidences
- Ability to ensure decisions are taken and followed up
- Good time-keeping and time management
- Tact and diplomacy
- Understanding of the roles / responsibilities of each of the network members
- Experience of organisation and people management
- A passion for sport and physical activity (not necessarily aquatics)
Time commitment: The role of Chairperson requires an estimated commitment of 3 – 5hours per month.
