Dear Parents,

Well another two weeks has passed. Time is flying by. We only have a few more weeks left. It is hard to believe that another year of school is almost over.

We learned the following word wall words: have, help, one, every, walk, ask, look, out, very, their, saw, and put. As always, these are words your child needs to learn from memory. Every time they see them in print they should know these words without having to sound them out.

During centers, we worked on sounding out words, practiced our bar graphing, worked on long vowel sounds, practiced finding missing letters, unscrambled word wall words, hunted for barnyard words in the hall, practice addition, worked on our measuring skills, completed an “ar”/”or” chunk sort, painted umbrellas for our bulletin board, practiced syllable counting, practiced base ten counting, worked on the classroom I-pads and computers, played in housekeeping and with play-doh, played games, completed puzzles, played with building materials, listened to a DVD story and wrote about it, and continued guided reading (During guided reading we read the book once in class and then your child is to read it to you again at home and then complete the homework).

During math, we started a new unit on measurement. We discussed different ways to measure different kinds of objects. We compared length, height, and capacity. During science, we went on a nature walk around the school and wrote about the different plants that we observed. We also completed our final season picture of our classroom tree. During social studies, we discussed different landforms and bodies of water we see around the world. We also talked about Earth Day.

We began JA last Thursday. Ask your child what this was all about. We will be having our JA representative in our classroom for the next 5 Thursday afternoons.

I have updated my website. You may now view my handbook if you have misplaced your copy. I have also posted my special schedule. I will put a copy of each newsletter on it too, that way if you read it and delete it but later want to check something you will find it there.
