Motherwell and Wishaw Indoor Carpet Bowling Association

RULES

1.  The Association will be known as the Motherwell and Wishaw Indoor Carpet Bowling Association.

2.  The spot for the full length Jack shall be three feet (3ft) from the inside of the upstand. The spot for the short Jack shall be 18 inches (18”) from the hug line.

3.  After two unsuccessful attempts to throw the Jack within the limits of the playing end, if it touches the centre obstacle, if it stops short of the hug line, or if it touches the upstand, it will be placed in the middle of the short long Jack

4.  The obstacle in the centre of carpet to stop direct striking shall be eighteen inches (18”) in diameter and must be solid.

5.  The size of the mat must be twenty four inches (24”) long and fourteen inches (14”) wide.

6.  Player may either stand or kneel when delivering a bowl providing he has both feet or knees on the mat an free hand must not touch the carpet, with exception to disabled.

7.  If a Player holds out his hand to play a shot and his free hand or delivering hand touch the carpet before the bowl has made contact with bowl or Jack if striking and before it crosses the hug line, the bowl will be deemed void.

8.  If the Jack, after being struck by a bowl, finishes outside the playing area, then a burnt end will be declared. The end will then be played over again, the bowls being returned to the same starting end.

9.  No Player shall be allowed to play for more than one Club in any season

10. No Player shall be allowed to play in more than one Championship Competition in any season. Infringement of this rule will mean instant disqualification and fine.

11. Single Championship. Only one Player allowed to play in this Championship. Thereafter, no substitute will be allowed.

12. Pairs Championship. After first round. Only one Substitute will be allowed Thereafter Substitute must remain in the Team and must play lead right through Tournament

13. Rinks Championship. After first round only one substitute will be allowed and thereafter must remain in the Team throughout the Tournament.

14. Only Skips and Thirds allowed to stand at head during play.

15. Any bowl moved accidentally by a Player while in motion or when it has come to rest, shall be replaces by the opposing Skip, to his satisfaction. He may have the choice, if the head has been accidentally destroyed by a foul bowl or a replay end. Any other decision should be referred to the Secretary.

16. If a Jack is driven into the upstand and rebounds into the playing area, it will be deemed to still be in play. Similarly is in the ditch area and is then moved by a chalked bowl and rebounds into playing area, it shall remain in play.

17. Any bowl, not a toucher, coming into contact with a toucher which is on or over the ditch line, will be deemed void. Any bowl touching a toucher (in a chain effect) which is still in playing area, will be deemed void.

18. A measure will not take place until all the bowls have been played. Skip will be responsible for agreeing on the result of each end, and no bowl should be removed or touched by anyone without their knowledge or approval.

19. All dead bowls , chalkers, marking of Jack or bowl in ditch, is the responsibility of the respective Skips or Third Man, unless when an Umpire is in charge.

20. Any game which has to be cancelled must have a good reason and given permission by Secretary. No games will be changed for football which is being shown live on T.V. or anything which is thought to have no hindrance to the game being played.

21. Monday and Thursday will only be used in extreme emergency and only on approval of the Secretary.

22. If any bowl touches the ditch line and stops, it will be given 10 seconds to see if it falls into play. If it does fall, it will be deemed void. Any bowl crossing ditch line into ditch area will be deemed void.

23. Any end being burned twice will be declared played end, and declared drawn. Except last end.

24. If any Club arrives to play at an away Venue and finds there is no game because the Home Team has not notified the Secretary, the Home Team will be responsible for expense to them for the coach Thirty Pounds (£30-00).

25. If any team fails to turn up to play at an away fixture, they will have to pay the Home team a twenty pounds (£20-00) fine for hospitality which they have incurred.

26. Only the Four Players of the Team which are on the carpet can discuss shots to be played. No instructions to be given by any spectators. Any one Club which infringes this rule will be brought in front of the League Committee.

27. In event of a tie for the League Championship or a tie for second place, a venue for play off, will be decided by League Secretary. In the event of a draw, an extra end will be played by last team on Carpet.

28. All team results to be phoned in after game or not later than Friday. All teams must have a representative at all meetings. Failure to comply with these Rules will mean a five pounds (£5-00) fine for each.

29. Only One (1) representative from each team will make a motion or vote on one made.

30. The Ditch shall not be less than nine inches (9”) and not more than twelve inches (12”).

31. If any Team has only seven (7) players second man from first Team plays second man in second Team.

FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH ANY ONE OF THESE RULES COULD MEAN HEFTY FINES, LOSS OF POINTS, ETC.
