Developing key office skills,(Data input, customer care both face to face and telephone, Microsoft Office) Opportunities to obtain professional qualification.
An Apprentice would enhance the ability of the team at busy periods and replace the succession of temps usually employed.

3 / Will this role be carrying out tasks normally associated with any current role in EBC? (Please explain briefly) / We normally employ a temporary staff member twice a year in the run up to an election and during annual canvass. Quite often different temps, so training is always required. Having an Apprentice would enable us to provide continuous and effective training, as they would be involved through the whole process.
4 / Nominated Mentoring/ Coaching Supervisor for the Apprentice:
(Please also indicate here if you attended session with NAS during Staff Conference, any other relevant information showing understanding/commitment to the scheme) / Both Tracey Pannett and Anne Andrews attended the NAS session at staff conference, as we thought an Apprentice would be beneficial in our section and would provide positive succession planning.
Apprentice would be directly mentored by TP and receive detailed on-the- job training and supervision from the team both on Electoral Services and Land Charges.
5 / Anticipated period of apprenticeship, if known:
(Please indicate) / 12 months /15 months /18 months
18 months would suit best. To provide structured training.
6 / Any further information in support of your proposal.
(Not more than 150 words) / Electoral Services work is increasing with the likelihood of more elections and local/national referendums in the future. Current team has recently taken on the land charges function as well which can peak and trough with the housing market. An Apprentice would provide a valuable asset to the team who could be developed and trained during the less pressured times of the year in order to be more effective at busy periods and allow the whole team to provide a more efficient service.
We see this as an opportunity for an Apprentice to be trained to a high standard and gain experience within elections and land charges that could provide them with a future career, as experienced electoral and land charges staff are not easy to recruit.
