Ms. Levine’s Two Cents

So you’re wondering… who’s the blonde in the back? Well, my name is Ms. Levine, and I’m a student teacher with University of the Cumberlands, a private Christian school in Williamsburg, Kentucky. I won’t bore you with things you really don’t need to know. What do you do need to know is below.

Things I love

I was a theatre major at UT before my “teaching days”, so you’ll notice I’m a little eccentric. I don’t expect you to be equally eccentric, but as my teachers used to say: “More energy!” I love effort. I love to see that you tried. You can fail miserably. But if you tried with everything you’ve got…it will already be ten times the product than what you put out after tossing the instructions. I put in a lot of time & blood, sweat & tears to work with you guys every day, and it means a lot to me to see you come into class with the same work ethic. Check your papers closely. Make them look professional. Remember, you’re preparing for college. We’ve been there – we want to see you succeed.

I love stories. It’s why I love English and it’s why I got into theatre. Stories are practical examples of what we experience in our own lives, no matter how crazy or unreal they seem. Reading a story is not just scanning the page for info you’re going to zap onto a worksheet and be done with. It is an investment. You are investing your time and imagination into this pack of words, and you’ll not get anything of value out of this investment if you cannot draw important meaning from the story. Pay attention to details. Dig deep with me. That’s all I ask.

Expectations

Along with the rules already set in place by Dobyns-Bennett, and Ms. Berry’s syllabus, I will add my one simple expectation for you. It’s summed up in one word:

Respect.

Respect your work. Respect your peers. And respect me. This one rule covers pretty much every “leash” an adult could possibly throw on you. It’s the rule of life. Accept it, and you’ll be the better man for it. Let’s stay classy, San Francisco.

Contact

I have a website. This is where I put all of my PPT slides and class notes/study guides. I also will put my weekly syllabi on the site so that you have a paper copy as well as an electronic copy. Check this website at least twice a week. I update it regularly, and it will have resources you need for my class. I suggest Monday & Friday as good days to check updates.
