Academy Newsletter No 25Monday 17th March

Dear Players and Parents,

Another busy week of action for our academy sides with a great week ahead including an international fixture at the Deeside Stadium.

Tough week of fixtures for academy sides

A tough weekend of fixtures saw our sides face Stoke City Newtown, Llandudno Town and Airbus UK Broughton academy sides.

The weekend kicked off with our under 8s travelling away to face Stoke City in friendly matches against their elite academy sides in the Stoke soccer dome.

Great challenges for our side in 5v5 matches with a number of top performances by our young players.

Our under 9s faced Newtown at home in futsal games with again good performances with both sides winning all games.

Our under 10s faced tough opposition in Llandudno Town and fell to a two one defeat. Man of the match went to Dan Herdman with Finley Probert scoring the sides goal.

Sunday saw our under 12, 14 and 16 sides travel away to Airbus in academy cup action.

Our under 16s suffered their first defeat of the season against Airbus who played very direct against the side but in an effective way and were well worthy of their win.

A good test now the next few weeks for the 16s on their bounce back ability following this defeat. Poor performance from the side bar man of the match Chris Boyes who worked tirelessly at left back and in the left wing position.

Previously in the week though the side had travelled away to face Stoke City academy in a game which they won by two goals to one thanks to a Jamie Roberts strike and Jack Chambers penalty in a top quality performances. Centre half Luke Blizzard was named man of the match.

Our under 12s found themselves one nil down early on but played some fantastic football and ended three one winners thanks to goals from Joe Thompson and Jack Smith (2) with man of the match going to Alex Harrison Smith.

Our under 14s also trailed in their game at half time by three goals to nil. Some fantastic coaching from Kevin Manley and Tom Dix as well as fantastic response from 14s players saw the side remarkably win the game by four goals to three!

Liam Bruford grabbed a single for the side with man of the match Thomas Hyndman grabbing a hat trick with his second an absolute screamer from distance.

Unfortunately this weekend our under 19s had a free week and Llandudno Town under 10s were unable to play Saturday as well as Llansantfraid under 13s and 15s unavailable Sunday.

All sides are back in action though this coming weekend.

U12 and U16 Crowned National Futsal Champions!

A fantastic weekend in Cardiff on Sunday saw our three academy cup sides represent North Wales in the National Finals.

An outstanding weekend for the three clubs saw the sides travel down Saturday afternoon following all players watching the first team three nil home win over Afan Lido.

A good nights rest in the Premier Inn Cardiff then saw the three sides head off towards the Cardiff Institute of Sport for the National Futsal Finals.

Our under 16s were first up who faced Merthyr in their semi final. An unbelievably high standard game saw the final score end in a seven all draw and the sides faced off in a penalty shoot out.

The Nomads won the shoot out by four goals to three and progressed to the national final where they would face The New Saints in a repeat of the North Wales final from January.

The Nomads had a slow start and TNS went into a two goal lead at half time. Jordan Fraser grabbed two goals within five minutes of the second half to bring the side right back into the game.

With just a minute remaining Jamie Roberts grabbed a winner before with just ten seconds remaining Nomads gave away a fifth foul and TNS found themselves having a penalty kick.

The taker narrowly missed the target and the Gap Connah’s Quay Nomads under 16s were crowned national champions.

Second up for the day was our under 14s. Unfortunately they fell to a 5-2 defeat to Cambrian and Clydach who eventually went on to win the event.

The 14s were in a one nil lead before they were reduced to 4 players when Steffan Owen was red carded for a foul in the game which left the side with an uphill battle.

The team comfortably won their third placed play off game against Rhyl with a very strong performance and finished third in the national event which is a great achievement.

The under 12s were the last side up for the day and faced Monmouth in their semi final and won the game by six goals to four. A very end to end game which was of a fantastic standard.

Identical to the under 16s final the under 12s final was a repeat of the northern final and the side faced a very strong Rhyl opposition.

The under 12s gave the performance of the day winning the game by six goals to nil with some outstanding goals on show and the side were crowned National Futsal Champions.

An outstanding day of futsal at Cardiff and a real fantastic weekend for all involved.

A big thank you to all parents and fans who travelled to show their support for the teams as well as all the players for their great attitudes and performances.

Photos from the day have now been added to the site which can be seen on the following link:

The day was also filmed by Sgorio and can be seen on the following link:

Wales U15s vs Poland U15s

International to be held at Deeside Stadium this Thursday 20th March. Mandatory attendance by all at academy for what should be a great event.

Following aground inspection from FAW Trust we can confirm that gap Connah’s Quay Nomads will be hosting Wales vs Poland under 16s fixture at the Deeside Stadium.

The game will be played this Thursday 20th March and will kick off at 19:00.

Academy training that evening will be postponed with all academy players attending the game for free and adults or any spectators over the age of 16 for just £3.

All supporters under the age of 16 are also free entry.

This will be a great opportunity for all academy players to witness football at international level and give them a great example to follow and aim for.

U8 to U11 sides will be involved in the day also. The under 8s and 9s will be playing 4v4 fixtures at half time with the under 11s being flag bearers prior to kick off and under 10s ball boys for the fixture.

U12 to U19 players will be given tasks during the game on the Welsh system which is a 4-3-3 with lots of similarities to our playing style which will be a great opportunity for our players to watch and learn from.

All players must arrive at the stadium for no later than 18:00 at the stadium and will meet in the ground in full academy tracksuits and polo tops. All U12 to U16 players must also bring with them a pen and a clip board of some sort to write on if they have one.

Our under 8s must be wearing their red home kit underneath their tracksuits and the under 9s their yellow away kit under their tracksuits.

Both sides will be escorted down to the pitch just before half time before entering the pitch to play.

This is a fantastic opportunity for all to be a part of and again this is mandatory attendance for all academy players.

Being involved in the Welsh academy system players should strive to want to represent the international side at any level and this is a great chance to see the elite junior international side in action at our very own Deeside Stadium.
