Decision Making Support Certificate (DMSC)

This 12-credit certificate will allow students to apply coursework in decision support, artificial intelligence, and enterprise management topics to create automated information systems.

Network Administration Certificate (NETC)

This 15-credit certificate will allow students to analyze, design, maintain, and administer network based information systems for a variety of organizations.

   IS 450—Data Communications and Networks

   IS 451—Network Design and Management

   IS 452—Internetworking

Plus at Least Two of the Following:

   IS 430—Information Systems and Security

   IS 451M—LAN Management Using Microsoft Windows

   IS 451U—LAN Management Using UNIX

   IS 451W—Server-Side Web Systems

Web Development Certificate (WEBC)

This 15-credit certificate combines elements of high level programming with content creation and computer interface design, and will allow students to analyze, design, and create web-based interfaces for a variety of organizations.

   IS 247—Computer Programming II

   IS 303—Human Factors in Computer Systems Design

   IS 403—User Interface Design

   IS 413—GUI Systems Using Java

   IS 448—Markup and Scripting Languages

*Please note: Upper level courses taken to satisfy an IS certificate requirement may not also be used to satisfy the required upper level IS elective course in the IS or BTA majors. All upper level courses count toward the 45 upper level credits required to graduate from UMBC. All courses required for these certificates must be passed with a grade of “C” or better.
