CARE AND SHARE COLLECTION

Our annual diocesan collection is off and running! Our first week response to Bishop Warfel’s appeal was a real record breaker. Thanks to the generosity of our initial givers we received nearly $12,000 toward our goal of about $80,000, which is about the same as last year. Hopefully you have received your letter from the Bishop explaining the needs and uses of the diocesan appeal. If not, take home one of the brochures in the pews. Let’s be generous as we consider our role and responsibility as members of the world-wide church of our Lord.

Justice Notes:

Operation Rice Bowl: (Rice Bowls are available at entrance of the Church.)

As we continue our Operation Rice Bowl journey let us remember in prayer that all humanity has been made in the image of God. Through our actions we must express that each person is precious and that the lives and welfare of all people are priorities. May our fasting keep us mindful of the hunger of the people of the world. May our almsgiving assist Catholic Relief Services in their work around the world.

St. Vincent de Paul’s Food Pantry

Thanks to all who continue to support our parish project of filling the shelves at St. Vincent de Paul’s Food Pantry. Each month we continue to see our box fill to overflowing with a variety of items for families who are in need of food assistance.

Please remember these families when you are shopping for your own family.

Liturgical Tidbits: Music Ministers: Who are the music ministers in liturgy? We refer to the instrument-alists and vocalists who lead us in song as the music ministers. And so they are.

However, this can be misleading, because WE, the COMMUNITY, are the primary music ministers in liturgy. Our job is to sing the songs, to witness to our faith to one another through our singing, and to encour-age others to do the same through our enthusiastic song. It is important that we support one another in song and that we hear one another and are not overwhelmed by electronic amplification or muted by sound-absorbing materials. Singing together is an important element of the liturgy which transforms us from independent individuals to a unified worshiping body.

If we feel we do not sing well, we can always remember that Psalm 95:1 invites us to make a "joyful noise" in our praise of God.

Parish Relief Fund: Holy

Stewardship

“Stewardship reminds us to count our blessings, acknowledge God’s gifts to us and express thanks to Him by a proportionate giving of our time, talent and treasure.”

Care and Share 2009

Jesus goes straight to the heart of the matter when he tells us clear out the pursuit of money in our lives.

Did you know? Our obligation as Catholics to respond to the gospel imperative to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless and care for the suffering is met with Care and Share dollars given to national and global efforts such as Catholic Relief Services, Latin American Missions, Holy Land, and Peter’s Pence.

Most people do not realize that the costs associated with the death penalty are substantially higher than those associated with life imprisonment. In the United States, the cost of executing a person is two to six times higher than imprisoning someone for life. Individual counties have often had to raise taxes just to pay for one capital case and execution. Many states could save millions of dollars per year if they abolished the death penalty.
