Steven R. Heacock

Steve Heacock is the Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel of the Van Andel Institute. In addition to his role at VAI, Steve is the point person in a community effort to expand the MSU medical school into West Michigan.

Steve’s expansive background includes executive management, legal and accounting practice and significant community work. Prior to joining VAI, Steve was Chief Legal and Administrative Officer for a development stage health products company (2002-2004); Vice President of Development for a health insurance provider (1997-2002); a partner with the law firm Warner Norcross & Judd (1984-1997) and a CPA with Price Waterhouse (1978-1982). Steve is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School and Michigan State University.

Steve currently serves on the board of directors for two businesses, Legacy Trust, a trust-only banking corporation and INFORMD, a development stage health information company. He also serves on numerous nonprofit boards. Steve chairs the Convention and Arena Authority, which owns and operates the Van Andel Arena and the DeVos Place convention and entertainment center and serves on the boards of the DeVos Children’s Hospital Foundation, West Michigan Strategic Alliance, and the Salvation Army. He is Treasurer of Congressman Vernon J. Ehlers Election Campaign Committee. Previously, Steve has chaired the Kent County Board of Commissioners and has received numerous personal and professional recognitions including:
