GUITAR PROGRAM HANDBOOK

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

Welcome back to school for the 2016-2017 school year! This handbook is designed to give you information on what materials will be needed this year. Parents, please sign and return the last page no later than Friday, September 9th.

CONCERTS AND REHEARSAL TIMES ARE AS FOLLOWS:

Tuesday, December 20th, 8th Grade Level II Tuesday-Afterschool rehearsal 3:25-4:10 P.M. Concert- 7:00 P.M./ report at 6:45 P.M.

Tuesday, March 21st, 8th Grade Level II-Cluster Concert BRHS/6:30 P.M.

Thursday, May 25th, 7th Grade Level I & 8th Grade Level II-Afterschool rehearsal 3:25-4:10 P.M. Concert 7:00 P.M./ report at 6:30 P.M.

Friday, June 2nd, 8th Grade Level II-All Day/ Hersheypark Competition

All County Guitar Information- TBA

CONCERT PROCEDURES

1.  Attendance at concerts and rehearsals is mandatory. Please review the schedule and mark your calendars now, so as to avoid conflicts. If there are any changes or updates, I will let you know well in advance.

2.  Appropriate concert attire is required. (I will discuss in class)

WHAT DO I NEED FOR GUITAR IN CLASS AND HOME?

Classical guitar with nylon strings on it. You can purchase or rent a guitar from a local music store. Students should leave their own guitars at home (EXCEPT FOR CONCERTS) and use one of the school’s guitars in class.

Spare set of strings. These will be used when a string breaks. Please purchase tie-end, not ball end, nylon/classical strings of any brand.

Guitarist’s footstool. (Bring to class each day)

Level 1-Essential Elements For Guitar-Guitar Book 1

Level II-To Be Determined

Texts may be purchased with accompanying CD’s

Other supplemental materials will be provided as is necessary.

Three-ring binder. Students will be receiving handouts, which are best kept in a separate guitar binder and brought to class each day.

Pencil. Students should bring to class each day.

ALL STUDENTS SHOULD BRING THEIR GUITARS, BOOKBINDER AND PENCIL TO BE CHECKED OFF BEFORE SEPTEMBER 9TH.

STUDENTS MUST USE A NYLON STRINGED CLASSICAL STYLE GUITAR! WE DO NOT USE STEEL STRING GUITARS FOR CLASS OR CONCERTS.

Farmwell Spring Music Trip to Hershey Park

Friday, June 2nd, 2017

SPRING TRIP REQUIREMENTS

1. Attend ALL performances and rehearsals

(Parent/guardian must give director advanced notice of absence, including illnesses occurring on the day of the performance)

2. Follow classroom rules and behavioral expectations

3. No In-School Restrictions or Suspensions

(Students assigned to In-School will need the Dean’s approval to attend the trip)

4. No more than 3 days of lunch detentions within a grading period from Mr. Kinzie

5. Return the bottom of this form by Friday, Sept 19th, 2016 signed by student and parent/guardian

6. Parents please be aware that this trip will be an all-day event from approx. 6 a.m.-11 p.m.
