Principals Report January 21, 2015
Christmas concert was well attended.
Turkey dinners were served up to our students. This was well done by Chartwell’s and volunteers.
We are getting a site license for IBM Upgrade. District will be providing us with 20 new iPad Mini’s for the iPad Cart.
We purchased new jackets for the Playground Pals.
June Leger has submitted a project for Trees of Knowledge. It’s for a 20 000 dollar prize for an outdoor classroom.
Drama Club is going to the Drama Festival.
We have started a math club for students in grade 1 who need extra practice in math. They are playing games with the grade 4 and 5 students at recess 2 days a week at recess.
We will be hosting the District Math competition at the end of March. Our students will be participating in the national math competition as well in April.
We are currently testing all of our students for the second time with Aimsweb to determine their levels of accuracy and fluency in reading as part of our School Improvement Plan. Students are also currently being tested with the Math Screeners to see how they are doing in math facts.
Our school will be reviewed by the Department in May. We are working as a staff to go through the indicators to do an internal review. Big ideas include:

We will be holding a parent forum, a student forum and a staff forum to get feedback on the school indicators.
Mrs. Leger is working on a poster project for the United Commercial Travelers. The topic is safety.
Madame Roy’s class is working on a video with the iPads to submit to a contest for a prize of 20 000 dollars in technology.
Mrs. McQueen has had a baby girl. Ms. MacGregor is replacing her in the Kindergarten class.
Ms. Hymers is now teaching art and Mrs. Leger is doing resource.
Snuggle Up with a book will be held for the K – 2’s for Family Literacy Day.
We will be purchasing some new items for the breakfast club with grant money received – new stove, toaster, pots and pans, bowls, cutlery, warming dishes, etc.
We are planning some activities for Pink Shirt Day – Friendship Fair – stations to make bracelets, friendship banner, gigantic pink shirt, good friend pledge, friendship ribbon contest and a sock hop. Scheduled for the last day before March Break – K – 2 before recess and 3 – 5 after recess.
Student leadership has been active – helping out as volunteers in a variety of ways in the school.
TTFM Student Survey Data has been received and will be linked to our school web site. Our students have provided us with feedback on their perceptions of what they are learning and our school culture. A common theme that came up in the data was finding more activities for them to do on the playground and clubs. We have asked the staff to pick up some extracurricular activities and are getting positive responses.
We are finding an increase in the number of children being seen by guidance for anxiety issues. We are going to do some self-regulation activities (yoga) in the gym to gage interest.
Zumba was well attended and enjoyed by most students.
Intramurals are ongoing – currently playing dodge ball.
We have new Irving Pals who are coaching basketball and soccer teams, working on skills at noon.
Running Club is ongoing in the gym – for grades 3 – 5 during lunch after the children have finished eating. Children have accumulated 64000 extra minutes of activity.
