2010 Welcome
On behalf of the new committee for the 2010 season, we welcome you back to the club for what will hopefully be an exciting new era of development for our great junior footy club. To our new families, welcome & I hope your time at the Burleigh Bombers is an enjoyable experience. We once again take this opportunity to sincerely thank the outgoing executive and general committee members for their hard work and dedication to help the club on our continual improvement plan. Well done in particular to SharonWarren for assisting us in ourpreparation for the coming season and beyond.
For those of you who do not know me, my name is Danny O’Donnell and I have volunteered to take on the role of President to assist in guiding the club (withour Executive and General Committee members), through the next phase of its journey. I have been involved with the Burleigh Bombers for six years and in that time I have watched the club continue to grow & prosper. My beliefs are that as parents we are all here to enjoy & support our children and watch them develop through their junior years. If you are willing to give up some time throughout the year to assist their Coaches, Committee etc you will find this will create a greater environment within your club.
The club is in a good financial position and we have a great platform to add some exciting new resourcesfor thechildren atthe club over the next phase.
Some of our key projects and initiatives underway for 2010 & beyond include:
- New Burleigh Bombers Junior Website
- Training tops added for the 14,s & 16’s
- New footballs for matches and training
- A great Auskick program at the club – Friday Evenings
- Structured Family social functions
- Links with the Senior club
- New Sponsorship plans and packages
We as a team are committed to continuing the solid foundations of management set at the club and hope to make our own special impact and contribution for the years ahead. We welcome feedback at all times and would like any concerns brought to the committee as soon as possible, for an amicable resolution to be made, for the good of the children and volunteers of the club.
Have an enjoyable pre season and we look forward to a super 2010 at Burleigh Bombers JAFL.
Kind Regards
Danny O’Donnell – President

Our 2010 Coach’s
No football club exists, without the volunteer work of our coach’s. At Burleigh, we are very lucky to have an experienced group of coach’s who spend their own private time assisting our children in loving the game of AFL.
Coaching Co-Ordinator
This year, we are very fortunate to have appointed Mr Robert Scott as our 2010 coaching co-ordinator. For those who don’t know, Robert had a very distinguished AFL career with firstly Geelong, and then Nth Melbourne.Playing over 240 senior games, Robert was an integral part of the 1996 North Melbourne premiership team, captained by Wayne Carey. We very much thank Robert for his time and commitment, and I am sure all coach’s and the club will benefit greatly by having Robert around.
Listed below are our coach’s for the 2010 season. To help us get to know them, a short profile has been included on each of them. At the time of writing this, our under8’s coordinator was not known, and we were yet to appoint a second U9’s coach.

Game Day Policy
Given the volunteer nature of our football club, at certain times throughout the year parents may be requested to assist with your teams requirements. This season, each team will be responsible for running one home day fixture each. The requirements of this day will include (with further details to come);
- Set up and pack up of grounds and posts
- Ground marshall
- Canteen
- Running the BBQ (inc setp and pack up)
- Etc…
Please make sure you make yourself available to assist on your teams selected day as the coach and team manager will still be required to perform their usual match day duties. Remember, many hands make light work – don’t let your side be the ones who leave it all to a few.
We also encourage all parents to offer your child’s coach assistance with training and match days as they will welcome any involvement, and your child will love seeing you be part of it.
Player Policy
It is the mission of the BBJAFL to provide all registered players a safe and caring environment so they can gain maximum enjoyment and development whilst participating in both routine training and game day matches. All teams will be coached in a manner that places TEAM as the number 1 priority, and as a club we expect our players to embrace this theme.
Burleigh Bombers Junior AFL expects the following standards
- We expect all players to be good sports both with teammates and opposition players
- We expect all players to want to improve, therefore listening to their coaches and trying their best
- We expect all players to have FUN, enjoying their new friends/teammates and using the new skills they develop as the season progresses
The following table outlines Age Groups for 2010:
Age Group / Year of Birth / Age Group / Year of BirthNAB Auskick / 2005(5) & 2004(6) / Under 11 / 1999
Under 8 / 2003(7) & 2002(8) / Under 12 / 1998
Under 9 / 2001 / Under 14 / 1997 &1996
Under 10 / 2000 / Under 16 / 1995 & 1994
Placement of players within a team
A team selection policy has been formulated and will be implemented at the beginning of the 2010 football season. The club policy is to integrate all players in the Under 9/10/11 year groups on a friendship basis. The club will endeavor to accommodate parents' needs and hopes to be able to place players with at least one nominated teammate.
Beginning at the Under 12 year, level one team will be selected to play at the highest level available to that team within the AFLGCJ. All other players will be equally distributed across all other teams in that age group if 2 or more teams are to be formed. These teams will play in the divisions as allocated by the AFLGCJ following input from the BBJAFL.
The selection of all teams will be undertaken by a committee involving:
- - The Club President
- - The Coaching Coordinator
- - Present Coaches
Other members of the BBJAFL community with a good knowledge of the current playing group may be invited to participate as well. Using this approach team balance, success on the field and content players will hopefully be achieved.
Fee Policy
The 2010 Player Registration Fees are as per the table below
Auskick - $80 (Auskick pack handed out by AFLQ)
Under 8’s - $80, or $110 (with a trophy and photo)
Under 9’s - $190
Under 10’s - $190
Under 11’s - $190
Under 12’s - $210
Under 14’s - $210
Under 16’s - $210
All fees are expected to be paid in full on sign on day, Sunday 7th February 2010. Burleigh Bombers is a non-profit organization, and all players need to be paid and registered with AFL Qld prior to commencement of the season. If fees are unable to be paid at registration, full payment is required prior to round 3 of the season, that being 1 May 2010. Unfortunately, any player who has not paid their fees by this date (or entered into an agreed payment plan), will be unable to play until paid in full. If families are having difficulty with payment of registration fees, contact should be made with Paul Dawson (Treasurer) to arrange an alternative plan. We trust all families understand.
Player Jumper Policy
All Players from Under 9’s up will be given a Burleigh Bombers Football jumper prior to commencement of the season. This jumper will be the players responsibility for the entire season and will be handed back to the coach/team manager at season end. The jumper is only to be worn at games, and is not to be worn to training or throughout the week casually. Part of the players responsibility will be maintenance and cleanliness of the jumper on a weekly basis, and to ensure they turn up to the weekend game with jumper in hand. If a player forgets to bring his jumper to a game, they will be unable to play that week. If for whatever reason the jumper is damaged or lost throughout the season, immediate notification should be made to the team manager, and a $30 fee will be payable being the replacement cost of such jumper. Prior to receiving ones jumper, players will need to sign an undertaking bearing the above details.
Burleigh Bombers Seniors
In addition to our junior teams, Burleigh Bombers has a strong U18, Reserves and Senior teams all playing in the Pineapple Hotel Cup. An update on the seniors upcoming season in provided below by Assistant Coach Matt Jamieson;
The senior squad is well into their Pre Season campaign for the upcoming 2010 season with the emphasis being on game orientated drills, fitness levels and cross training sessions at BondUniversity. It's an exciting time at the Bombers with the ongoing improvement and development of some of our former junior players like Jacob Howell, Fraser Harris, Chris Warren, David Young & Cameron King who unfortunately though will go onto bigger and better things with a career in the airforce in Canberra as a fighter pilot. Myself & Zane are excited with the continued development these players will show which will only complement the recruiting in the off season of two 19 year olds from Bendigo, who have just came out of the TAC cup competition which is the best in Australia for U/18's. With the inclusion of some other players from Interstate and the State League here in QLD, this will only help the current crop of players continue to improve and push for a finals appearance in the upcoming season. The numbers so far after Christmas have been pleasing and with the 2010 season less than 7 weeks away we need to have all existing and intending players to commit to training to give themselves the best opportunity to play a role for the club in their respective teams in 2010. It is also great to announce a new Reserves coach for this season, this being former premiership ruckmen Adam "Tallie" Thornley which will be a great fit for the club with his positive attitude and hard work ethic, our reserves will be well prepared come game day that's for sure. Also with the new clubhouse fully open it also gives us the opportunities to bond as a team and enjoy these facilities which help create that winning culture.
I and the senior club wish all the junior club the best for the upcoming season and that we all work together to continue to promote development amongst our junior ranks to see the results as we did in 09 with the promotion of our home grown junior players.
The seniors season kicks off on Sat the 20th of March at home against Coolangatta and we would love to see as many as possible Junior Bombers down at our home ground supporting the mighty Burleigh Bombers.
Thanks again and bring on the best game in the world Aussie Rules!!!!.
