Parent- Student –Teacher Compact 2016-17
The mission of LaVergne Primary School is to ensure that each student has a mastery of basic academic skills in a safe learning environment. Therefore, we will accomplish this by providing a responsible staff with a challenging and developmentally appropriate curriculum.
Parent/Guardian Agreement
It is important to have my child reach his/her full academic potential. Therefore, I will encourage him/her by continuing to do the following:
Make sure that my child is well fed, rested, and prepared for school.
See that my child is punctual and attends school regularly.
Stay aware of what my child is learning and have ongoing communication with my child’s teacher.
Review and sign my child’s agenda/folder daily.
Make a regular time and place for homework. Review it often.
Support my child’s learning by reading with him or her daily.
Encourage my child’s efforts and be available for answering questions.
Participate in planned parent activities within the school.
Reinforce appropriate behavior in the home environment.
Support the school staff and respect cultural differences.
Support parent/school activities and attend PTO meetings as much as possible.
Set an example of respect and good citizenship for my child.
Teacher Agreement
It is important that our students achieve; therefore, we shall strive to do the following:
Provide an environment that nurtures and sets high expectations for all students.
Welcome classroom students and parents.
Maintain open lines of effective communication with students and their parents.
Encourage parent involvement in the classroom and in school-wide activities.
Make learning fun and exciting.
Set an example of respect and good citizenship.
Be sensitive to families’ personal situations.
Student Agreement
It is important that I do the best I can. Therefore:
I will attend school regularly and on time.
I will be prepared with homework completed and all school supplies.
I will work to the best of my ability and maintain a positive attitude.
I will show respect and good citizenship.
I believe that I can and will learn.
LPS School-wide Involvement School/Parent Policy
2016-17
Policy Involvement- Welcoming all families into the school community
Families are active participants in the life of the school, and feel welcomed, valued and connected to each other, to school staff, and to what students are learning and doing in class and school.
Staff will be available for districtwide conference dates and individual conferences upon request.
Offer meetings which family’s needs. Provide a timeline of parent activities, which include: participation in planned parent activities, assisting in the planning and helping to improve the program.
Send home newsletters and have meetings to talk about school, students, and classroom teaching and testing.
Send out surveys and provide other meetings for parents to talk with each other, ask questions, share ideas, and make decisions about their children.
Provide timely responses to parent suggestions made in the meetings described above.
Shared Responsibility – Communicating Effectively and Supporting Student Success
Develop with parents a written agreement (called a compact) listing suggestions to help their children succeed in school. Explain the importance of regular home/school contact through all means necessary (conferences, progress reports. etc.)
Building Capacity/Helping Parents, Teachers, and Community
LaVergne Primary will encourage increased parent involvement through the following:
Share information with parents about education goals, standards, requirements through meetings, newsletters, etc.
Help parents with calendars, newsletters, etc to know (1) how to check on student’s work, (2) how to work with teachers to help children do better in school, and (3) how to participate in making decisions about their children’s education.
*To help show the importance of parental involvement through workshops and classes
*Work with community agencies and services in parent involvement
*Provide information, as often as possible, in the language spoken in the child’s home
Accessibility/Reaching Out
LaVergne Primary will strive for involvement and participation of all parents with the following:
*Invite all parents to participate and making accommodations to meet their needs
*Provide information that will be clear and concise.
*Have open lines of communication with parents through conferences, phone calls, and email
*Organize training sessions and workshops for parents.
