INTRODUCTION

The Code of PrinceWilliamCounty in Sections 19-12 and 19-13 provides for the establishment of Position Classification and Pay Plans. This edition incorporates Fiscal Year 2012 amendments effective
July 1, 2011.

The Position Classification Plans are comprised of approximately 695position classifications embracing over 4,303County employees (FTEs). Each position classification is established through job analysis and Hay Group’s Job Evaluation Managerto identify and measure: similarities and differences in the general nature of functional responsibilities; primary and essential duties typically performed to achieve each classification’s purpose; essential knowledge, skills and abilities; and education, experience and training which demonstrate that the required capabilities have been acquired and developed.

The position classifications are arranged in several different formats: Schematic Index, by class code; Alphabetical Index, by class title; and Grade Index with minimum and maximum salaries in ascending order.

The Position Classification and Pay Plans consist of four (4) annual schedules. The General Salary Schedule covers approximately the majority of the classifications; Public Safety Schedule applies to classifications for sworn law enforcement officers and crossing guards, uniformed salaried Fire and Rescue positions, and Public Safety Telecommunications staff. The Medical Practitioner Schedule applies to Doctors of Medicine, Psychiatry and Dentistry. Instructor payscales apply to the positions in Parks & Recreation.

Each salary schedule rangeconsists of aminimum, midpoint andmaximum salary amount. Merit increases are based on a percentage of current salary.
