PurposeThis unit standard is for people working in the seed processing industry.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: lift bags of seed; use safe conduct in a seed processing store; and stack and de-stack bags of seed.

Elements and performance criteria
Element 1
Lift bags of seed.
Rangetypes of lifting – bags of seed lifted from the ground onto a pallet including above shoulder height; changing direction while carrying and lifting bags of seed.
Performance criteria
1.1Safe lifting practices are used in accordance with company procedures.
Rangeposition of feet, position of load, use of legs, speed of lifting, straightness and angle of back and neck, hold, grip, use of body weight.
1.2Company restrictions for lifting are complied with in accordance with company procedures.
Rangerestrictions may limit – weight, size, height, position of bags to be lifted; frequency of lifting, duration of lifting.
Element 2
Use safe conduct in a seed processing store.
Performance criteria
2.1Conduct does not place self or others at risk of injury in accordance with company health and safety procedures.
2.2Conduct is in accordance with company procedures.
Element 3
Stack and de-stack bags of seed.
Rangetypes of stacking and de-stacking – on the ground, on a pellet including above shoulder height.
Performance criteria
3.1Stability of stacked bags of seed is maintained throughout the stacking and de-stacking.
Rangestability considerations – load centre or centre of gravity, height, mass.
3.2The bags of seed are positioned precisely and securely on stack.

Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
