Facilities Highlights

There were 727 work orders completed for the month of October. There have been 82 new requests and 213 work orders are still in progress. Second quarter PM maintenance inspections, as well as the first semi-annual PM inspections, are in progress.

Homecoming activities for both Poston Butte and Florence all went well. There were no issues with bonfires or parades. The new pump for the Florence High School swimming pool was installed and is working well. Now that the Town of Florence has moved out of the Library building, staff was able to go in and revamp the inside. Inmates scrubbed walls before applying new paint. This was all completed last week.

Overall, fire alarms were repaired at Johnson Ranch, Walker Butte , Skyline Ranch and Florence K8, as well as security alarms at Florence High School, Copper Basin and Skyline Ranch; monthly recall tests on elevators at Magma, Poston, Circle Cross and FK8 were completed; asbestos testing samples were pulled on the repair project at Circle Cross and fire marshal inspections for all schools were scheduled; backflows were repaired and soccer goal posts were replaced where needed. Maintenance and Grounds Crew trimmed trees and cleaned up after the October storms blew through. Waterline issues at Poston Butte are still under review/repair, as well as the electrical at Florence K8.

On a Side Note – Gary Forker, Copper Basin Maintenance, is at home and is expected to make a full recovery from his heart attack he had last week. In the meantime, Rick Matteson is covering his duties.

Transportation Highlights

National School Bus Safety Week

October 19-23 was National School Bus Drivers Safety Week. The bus drivers were rewarded with a wonderful luncheon on Friday, Oct. 23rd – compliments of Assistant Superintendent Chris Knutsen and Director Mark Lamas! Drivers thoroughly enjoyed their BBQ sandwich, slaw and beans, which were graciously prepared for National School Bus Drivers Safety/Recognition Week. Drivers often don’t hear how much everyone appreciates all that they do, so they were pretty pleased with the recognition from Mr. Knutsen and Mr. Lamas.

Bus Evacuation Drills

Bus evacuation drills will wrap-up this month. The last bus drill will be on November 4th at Florence High School. Several of the bus drills had to be conducted during the rain, which added to a real life situation that could occur. All drills went extremely well and we appreciate the staff and administration participation. Teachers and Principals were on buses for drills from the beginning to the end. Students were attentive and overall behavior was excellent. Special needs evacuations were also conducted at the same time.

Staffing

Drivers continue to be trained; we had three new certifications this past month which has helped with transportation issues. As always, bus drivers come and go and we are always challenged with employment issues. Drivers continue to manage their buses well and parents are still utilizing the website to obtain route information,
