About us

RISE is a borough-wide drug and alcohol recovery service working with people throughout their treatment journey; from engagement, through to treatment, prescribing to aftercare. RISE offers a wide range of interventions to Ealing residents, over 18, their families and partners who are experiencing difficulties with drug or alcohol use.

We currently have two hubs for service users currently using substances. These are based in Southall and West Ealing. The work done at each hub is identical. We are looking for volunteers at each location.

Purpose of the role:

This is an exciting opportunity to become the first point of contact for service users and visitors accessing our busy services in West Ealing or Southall. It will put you in a key position to learn about drug and alcohol services, interact with the local community and develop your administrative skills. You will be key to providing a smooth and welcoming first impression of the service, working as part of a friendly team in a busy charity consortium.

As the Reception Assistant, you will support our new premises by providing a front of house service. This will involve monitoring access to the building and ensuring entry and reception protocols are followed. There will also be a requirement for the post-holder to help with administrative tasks as/when appropriate.

Main tasks will include

  • Manning the reception desk and managing the reception space and entry procedure
  • Engaging with service users and visitors accessing the building
  • Answering the project telephone and providing a switchboard/message taking service
  • Helping out on an ad hoc basis with administrative tasks (e.g. photocopying, filing, data entry, dealing with post)

Skills/qualities needed

  • Excellent oral communication skills (English language)
  • Good written communication skills
  • Non-judgmental attitudeand willingness to engage with service users
  • Basic IT literacy, including use of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and act within professional boundaries
  • Willingness to actively participate in regular supervision

Desirable qualities

  • Basic understanding of drug and alcohol issues
  • Additional language skills, particularly Punjabi or Eastern European
