The China Educational Exchange is a program of the Mennonite and Mennonite Brethren churches in North America . Its primary function is to place North American teachers in teaching positions in Chinese universities, usually in Henan and Sichuan provinces. CEE teachers normally serve for two-year terms or longer, though the organization also places teachers for five-week terms of service each summer.

In addition to its study abroad program, CIEE also runs a Teach in China Program. College graduates can spend five months, ten months or longer teaching English in Chinese middle schools, high schools or universities. Accommodation and local salary are provided. Previous teaching experience is not required.

Founded in 1977, the Colorado China Council is a non-political, educational outreach organization dedicated to developing programs to deepen the American public’s understanding and appreciation of China ’s history, culture and contemporary life. Its primary objective is to send Americans to teach at Chinese universities and a few secondary schools. It is affiliated with the China Teachers Consortium, an organization of China programs at several universities, and with the Colorado Asia Council, which offers opportunities to teach English in Mongolia . The Colorado China Council is involved in other activities including specialized tours, cultural exhibits in China and the U.S. , and hosting delegations and individuals.

The Fulbright Scholar Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and is administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars. Fulbright grants are made to U.S. citizens and nationals of other countries for a variety of educational activities, primarily university lecturing, advanced research, graduate study and teaching in elementary and secondary schools. Approximately three distinguished lecturing awards, 18 lecturing awards and nine research awards are made each year for scholars interested in China . For lecturing awards, full and associate professors are preferred.

The Peace Corps program in China is located in Sichuan province, where Peace Corps volunteers work at teacher training colleges. Their primary goal is to teach English to students who expect to become middle school English teachers in the more remote areas of Sichuan Province . Volunteers are also integrating environment-related issues into their English classes to increase environmental awareness, stimulate critical thinking, and enhance problem-solving skills.

Volunteers in Asia is a private, non-profit, non-sectarian organization that sends between 30 - 40 English teachers to Indonesia , Laos , Vietnam and China each year. China volunteers live and work at universities and colleges across the country. Classes vary from review sessions for teachers and graduate students to introductory conversation for freshmen. As a counterpart to VIA's Volunteer Program, Trans-Pacific Exchange (TPE) organizes 2-5 week study programs that promote in-depth, personalized cross-cultural exchange between students, educators and professionals from Asia and the United States.
