WHAT: Ehrlo Counselling presents Trauma repair: kids in crisis conference this week in Saskatoon and Regina with presenter Deena McMahon. Discussion will include effective ways to communicate and work with a traumatized child, identifying signs and symptoms of trauma, learning how to provide a safe relationship, and what treatments are most effective and why.

“There has been an increase in awareness of how trauma can impact a developing child. This conference is an overview of how the child’s developing brain is affected by traumatic experiences and the adaptive strategies that they employ and appropriate ways for us to deal with a child’s behavior so we can have successful outcomes,” commented Bree Fiissel, Director of Ehrlo Counselling Services.

She added that this was one of the driving forces behind inviting psychologists, social workers, teachers, and others working in the field of child care in western Canada to the event. “Knowing how to work with kids in crisis and significant trauma has become a must for professional helpers.”

Proceeds from the conference will help to fund Ehrlo Counselling’s pro-bono work in the community.

WHO: The main presenter is Deena McMahon, MSW, LICSW, a family and attachment therapist in private practice. She has also developed expertise in the areas of childhood trauma, childhood sexual abuse, grief, and loss. She is known for her passion in working with children and her strong advocacy skills.
