OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB
------
§ To welcome residential visitors (up to 16 people) to Skomer Island and to be the Wildlife Trust’s first point of contact for these guests, ensuring that they get the most from their stay.
§ To ensure that the accommodation and facilities are well managed and maintained in a clean and tidy state.
§ To liase with and be the point of contact for people involved in overnight guests – including boatmen, Lockley Lodge (mainland visitor centre) and Islands Booking Office

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
------
· To ensure maintenance and cleanliness of bedrooms and shared facilities within the visitor accommodation, ready for new guests arriving on a daily basis. Produce a cleaning schedule and co-ordinate island volunteers to assist in cleaning tasks.
· To be on call to deal with all queries or problems encountered by overnight residents
· To give a short introductory talk to overnight guests, ensuring they are aware of the rules of the island, highlighting Health and Safety issues, and to help them gain the most from their visit.
· Assist with loading and unloading of residential visitors’ luggage from the boat. Transport visitor’s luggage to and from the boat landing each day using the islands’ tractor.
· Liaison with Island Bookings Administrator, Skomer Island Warden and Assistant Wardens, Lockley Lodge duty staff and the Development Manager, where necessary
· Provide assistance to Warden in delivering the introductory talk to day-visitors when required (eg first boat of the day)
· To provide leave cover for warden and assistant wardens
· To undertake other duties appropriate to the post that may be requested from time to time by the Line Management including membership recruitment.
· Ensure Health and Safety Policy is complied with at all times
JOB SPECIFICATIONThis is a key post, dealing with people from all backgrounds. The post holder will be responsible for
projecting a positive and pleasing first impression of Skomer Island and the Wildlife Trust of South and
West Wales.
· There is a degree of decision-making involved with routine tasks, and the post holder will liaise closely with the Skomer Warden on complex matters
· This is a short term contract between 1 April and 31 August 2013
· A flexible approach to working hours is required.
· The salary will be £12,500 pa, pro rata with accommodation provided on the island.
· In order for the organisation to work efficiently, you may be required to assist with other areas of work and therefore you should be prepared to undertake other duties appropriate to the post, as delegated by your line manager.

· Must enjoy working with the public and have the ability to get on with diverse groups of people
· Must be physically fit and able to carry luggage up a steep flight of stairs and handle 19kg propane bottles
· Ability to live with others in a small community and have a commitment to spending long periods of time on an offshore island
· Emergency First Aid at Work certificate
· An interest in British wildlife, particularly seabirds
· Excellent verbal communication skills
· Good leadership and organisational skills and ability to prioritise
· Full driving license and willingness to learn tractor driving on the island
· High levels of enthusiasm, self-motivation and initiative
· Desirable
· Bilingual communication skills
