GEN-01 MATH VILLAGE-1 SIRINCE 02.05 – 18.05 RENO-CONS 10 VOLS

Have you ever heard of Mathematic Village? Probably not, because it is a 7 years old village. If you like nature, this is a tailor made project for you. Even if you hate mathematic you can still join in this camp, because the project is not related with math but is about helping to build a non-formal education center in nature. Mathematic Village is created by a university professor aiming to endear math to young people. Around 200 math lovers gather in this center during summer holidays, to learn, exercise and study math. International and native math professors are voluntarily sharing their knowledge with young students during the summer school. W: The center still needs some constructional work and landscaping and volunteers are needed for this task in order to prepare the complex for the coming season. A: In the complex of Math Village. Sleeping bag and mat are not necessary. F: Food is provided by the staff of the Math Village. Volunteers help the staff for preparing, cooking the meals and setting up the tables. LA: English. LO: Sirince is a small village in the west of Turkey. Please be aware that the center is a bit isolated. No night life, TV or disco is available at the center but there is internet conncetion. The next village Sirince, which is only 15 minutes by foot, is very attractive and famous for its homemade wines and traditional architecture. GEN-02 LYCIAN WAY KEMER–ANTALYA 09.05–24.05 RENO10 VOLS

The Lycian Way isoneofthemost popular and the longest trekking route in Turkey. It consist of footpaths, mule-trails and stone paved paths going over the mountains or along the coasts. Its length in total is 500 km and it takes 4 weeks to walk it from the beginning to the end. Due to erosion, fallen trees and growth of bushes, parts of the trail are now narrow, partly cut off, bushy, and untidy. Due to new road building, we also need to change parts of the trail.

W:For the first week, volunteers will reconstruct a broken path, pave parts with stones, construct steps, cut bushes and waymark the route. Volunteers will have to walk to the workplace, which is high above a beach and partly in forest. The working place is isolated and mostly without shade, but very beautiful, anda paradise for nature and hike lovers. 6 working hours per day excluding the lunch break will be spent at the site. Be prepared for hard work under a hot sun on steep hillsides.

For the second week, volunteers will move inland and repair path, cut bushes and waymark sections of path around a village and down a canyon. The work is similar but the area has more forest and is higher in the mountains. More walking and exploring areinvoked.Please be aware that the work is in beatiful nature but hard and challenging. You will be able to swim - either from the beach or in mountain streams - so you should bring swimming gear. Opportunity to visit historic sites.
A: 1st week in supplied tents near a beach. Sleeping bag & mat are necessary. 2nd week in pensions in a village. All bedding and meals provided. GEN-03 THEATRE MADRASA SIRINCE – IZMIR 20.05 – 04.06 RENO-CONS 15 VOLS

Theatre Madrasa is designed as an international centre for research, creation and performance to be built in Sirince, a village of Selcuk, Izmir. Madrasa aims to be an alternative venue to host those artists, who have an ambition to not only answer current questions on theatre and performing arts but also raise the new ones. Theatre Madrasa intends to be a centre of attraction and meeting point for Turkey and world theatre. W: The center still needs some constructional work and landscaping. GEN-04 WATER LILY-WOMEN ONLY DUZCE 26.05 – 10.06 RENO – KIDS 5 VOLS

The Water Lily Women Cooperative is running a kindergarten for the kids of the working mothers of Duzce city. In order to raise fund they also do different activities related with their jobs. Producing hand made food like jam, tomato sauce, powder soup and selling them is a source of income for the cooperative. They need female volunteers to help them for preparing the year end party, to decorate the walls, play games and sing songs with the kids, welcome the guests, etc. The volunteers will also help the staff to run activities with the kids. If you can play a portable instrument, or teach some games to the kids, able to do handicrafts you are vey welcome. Also some gardening works will be a part of your work. W: Helping for the party organization and running activities for the kids, together with the staff. A: In the kindergarten. Sleeping bag and mat are not necessary. F: Will be supplied at the site. LA: English. LO: Duzce is a big city in the north-west of Turkey. Camp site is in the suburb of the city. T: Istanbul. The project will start in Istanbul with a compulsory orientation meeting that all volunteers should attend on the first day of the camp at GENCTUR Office. The group will travel together to the camp site by an overnight coach on the same evening. Note: No alcohol is permitted during the camp at the campsite and the accommodation venue. Smoking is not allowed while volunteers are with the students.

GEN-05 MIRACLE FISH ERCIS - VAN 29.05 – 10.06 FEST-ENVI-ART 10 VOLS

Are you ready to see a miracle of Pearl Mullet which is an endemic fish species living only in Lake Van in the east part of Turkey. Although they live in the lake, the fishes are laying eggs in the rivers running towards the lake. Migration for egg laying is a spectacular scene. You will see thousands of fishes jumping into the air against the strong current of the river. http://www.vidivodo.com/video/inci-kefali-gocu/916164 The illegal egg laying time fishing is endangering the life of the fish and pushing towards extinction. The local Nature Observers Association is putting a lot of effort to protect the fish and to prevent the illegal & out of season fishing. A festival is organized to raise awareness in the region by Ercis town governor, Ercis Municipality, 100. Yil University and Nature Observers Association. GENCTUR is collaborating with Nature Observers Association in order to realize the festival.W:Helping to the festival organisation committee to prepare and run the festival. To prepare and hang posters, to set up stands, stages & tables, create a drama and perform in public, distributing brochures, welcoming the visitors, etc. R: Volunteers must be able to ride a bike as the transport between the town center and the festival ground will be done by bikes only. The distance is 10 km. Bikes will be provided by the host. A:Under the supplied tents. If you prefer privacy you can bring your own tent. Sleeping bag & mat are necessary.F:Will be served at the site.LA:English.LO: Van is the far eastern city of Turkey by the Iranian border. Lake Van is the biggest lake of Turkey. The camp will start in Istanbul with an orientation meeting. Volunteers will travel all over Turkey from west to the east by coach (22 hours) on the second day of the camp. Thus 1 overnight stay in Istanbul is compulsory with an extra cost of 15 Euro. The rest of the camp days will be spent in Van province.T:Istanbul.

GEN-06 TEACH CAMP-1 ATABEY 30.05 – 14.06 TEACH 10 VOLS

Anatolian High school of Atabey town hosts 175 teenage students. They are very excited to have a face to face contact with foreigners for the first time in their school. Volunteers expected to practice English through in and out of the class activities. Teach camps are a very good opportunity for volunteers who can speak good English and able to practice it with kids & teens through daily conversation, in & outdoor games and other activities. These camps give a self confidence and encouragement to the pupils as they practise English by close contacts with foreigners. GENCTUR is looking for at least 20 years old volunteers who have a good level of English to realize this aim. Horse riding, trekking through the hills of the near by mountain, visiting the Egirdir Lake will be the possibilities for the free days. Close contact with the local people will give a chance to the volunteers a high level cultural exchange. W: Practicing English with the teenage students of a high school. Each volunteer will deal with a group of pupils in turn, each day & session. As the school season is still on, the volunteers will also assist the English teachers in the classrooms as well as organzing some in & outdoor activities for the teenagers. R: Volunteers must be at least 20 years old with a good level of English. A motivation letter containing a Skype ID must be sent together with the application form. Applicants will be interviewed via Skype before being confirmed. LO: Atabey is a small town in the south-west of Turkey. Nearest city is Isparta. T: Istanbul. GEN-08 FAMILY CAMP LAPSEKI 07.06 – 21.06 MANU – RENO 15 VOLS

This is a special camp for families (At least an adult over 25 years and a child up to 12 years old.) Lapseki is a small town by the Sea of Marmara. The locals will harvest cherry in mid June (if the weather conditions allow the cherries to grow and become ripe) and will celebrate the harvest by a local “Cherry Festival”. The municipality is running a public camping site in the summer where they will host our teenage camp in July. The site needs to be prepared for the summer. W: The volunteers will work at the camping site and around as well as in the town for the preparation of the festival to do some environmental arrangements. The tasks will vary daily and the works will be light to let the kids to contribute. But if the dates of the festival have to be postponed due to the weather conditions then the volunteers will not work for the festival. A: Basic, in camping rooms with 4 beds. Sleeping bag and mat are not necessary. Toilets and showers are shared. F: Will be supplied at the site. LA: English. LO: Lapseki is in the North-west of Turkey. T: Istanbul.
