Students will identify a simple sentence and minor sentence and use them in a paragraph.
Students will ask parents about connections and realise that they happen all the time
Students will recognise similes and metaphors; complete exercises in Grammar to Go pp51-53

3.“The Lesson” / Read poem in class; identify the metaphors; think pair share why each is used
Questions on poem following taxonomy / Understand metaphors and write either a short paragraph or poem about someone in their family

Week 5 / Novel study –elements of novel / Presentation of response to a song/ poem in student’s anthology; listening; interpersonal speaking
Before and after grid; / Poetry anthology completed –mixture of own writing, reading and presenting. Students will have learned to write in different forms including an autobiographical poem. Will have integrated figurative language in own poems and identified themes and techniques in songs
Begin reading novel
Week 6 / Novel study –elements of novel / independent reading
Word find, matching and space activities / Students will be reading the novel and getting familiar with characters, plot
Week 7 / Creative writing preparation NB This could be in Week 5 if novels have not arrived / Independent reading
