Information for History Day Students

Departure

We will be leaving Tohickon via a school bus at 7:00AM on Saturday, March 24th. Ursinus College is about an hour away and registration begins at 8:00AM. Judging goes from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and lunch in the Wismer Center at Zack’s Cafe from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, and then awards are from 1:15 PM to 2:15 PM. We will be leaving at that point to return to Tohickon and a parent or a guardian can pick you up at approximately 3:00 PM. Please call your parent or guardian when we are about ten minutes away from Tohickon so that they can meet you in a timely fashion. Please dress appropriately. Also, bring money to cover lunch, $10 should be sufficient.

Helpful Hints

Students must be aware of the competition rules regarding their individual categories.

Details regarding these rules are in the competition rule book listed on the National History Day web site at .

Students need to protect their projects if there is inclement weather. There is a walk from the parking lot to where lead students register and the halls where the individual or group will be presenting. Turn of your cell phone before the judges view your product or presentation. Do your best to answer the questions asked by the judges and, if possible, lead them with a comment or an idea that will form their next question. This allows you to shape the dialogue and express what you understand best. Prepare a few talking points so that the conversation between you and the judges is a success.

Arrival

CARS may enter the college’s main entrance, about thirty yards past 5th & Main Streets on the right. Then follow the signs for National History Day parking, behind Wismer Hall.

BUSSES will enter Ursinus by taking Main St. to 9th Avenue and turning right, and then proceed along 9th Ave for 200 yards before turning right into the college’s rear entrance. Follow the driveway up the hill to the turning area and then proceed to the left, down to the drop-off point in back of the gym. This will be the pick-up and drop-off point for all busses. Busses will be directed to their parking area by Campus Safety Officers.

Registration

The “lead” student is the student who should check in for their group at registration. The Student Registration Packets they receive, as they check in, are labeled with the lead student’s name and identify the building and room where you are to present your NHD project.
