Materials Required: Non-programmable calculator, pen, pencil and eraser.

Instructions to students:

1.  Make sure that you have a separate 9 page booklet that contains part A, the Multiple Choice questions. You may write in this booklet but all answers must be recorded on your Scantron in pencil. You may use foolscap for rough work. Your essay must also be completed on foolscap. Booklet 1, 2 and all foolscap must be handed in at the end of the exam.

2.  Also make sure that this booklet, Parts D - F, contains 9 pages including this one.

3.  Use your time wisely. If time permits, do not leave any questions unanswered. Allow enough time to go back and recheck all your answers. It is recommended that you leave about twenty minutes at the end to review your exam for errors.

4.  Answer all questions in full sentences unless otherwise stated. Read each question carefully and make sure that you are answering the correct questions. Write a detailed and complete answer for full marks.

Part D: Short Answer

You will read the attached Scientific Journal. Be ready to answer the summary questions that are usually assigned. Also there will be three questions from Spark (chp. 2 & 3) about the roles of "Miracle-Gro", glutamate, GABA, Serotonin, Norepinephrine, and Dopamine. Be able to provide evidence regarding how stress and exercise have a positive correlation.

Part E: Case Study

Know how to fill-out a 1 week exercise Program Card template with information that clearly identifies the exercises, the sets and type of set performed (for e.g. straight, super-set, pyramid etc.), the reps and tempo of reps, the rest between sets and any cues or comments that remind John how to perform each exercise safely and correctly. You will be given two exemplar case studies and the case study on the exam will be very similar to one of these case studies given to you.

The Program Card will be evaluated using the following marks checklist:

1.  The client’s program card is filled out thoroughly and is easy to understand. It includes appropriate program guidelines and program breakdown. (5 marks)

2.  The strength training exercises, sets, reps and rest period are suited to the needs of the client (5 marks)

3.  Appropriate cardiorespiratory guidelines are detailed and the cardiorespiratory exercises chosen specifically outline the intensity and duration of exercise as well as the type of exercise (5 marks).

4.  The stretches chosen target the areas of need for the client and specifically outline the duration of each stretch as well as number of repetitions (5 marks).

Part F: Graphing and Calculate

You will need to know how to complete questions similar to those in the worksheet pages that we took up together in class prior to the Biomechanics project.
