Seeing

  • Observe different buildings and landscape in the neighbourhood near the school

Making

  • Generate ideas from the topic “On My Way To School”.
  • Create a 2D drawing map with the landscape and buildings in the neighbourhood.
  • Demonstrate through their artworks an understanding of line and shape.

Appreciating

  • Use simple descriptive words to talk about ideas and artworks.
  • Evaluate their own and other classmates’ artworks.

Day 1

  • Recall what they see on their way to school.
  • Discuss the things they observe on their way to school.

  • Discuss with pupils the things they observe on their way to school.
  • Show some photographs of the things they observe (eg trees, park, playground, flats, church, cars, traffic lights)

20 mins /
  • Observe what the teacher has drawn.
  • Clarify doubts.

  • Inform pupils that they are going to draw a map showing the location of some of these things they have seen on their way to school (similar to a treasure map).
  • Draw the map first.
  • Add in objects randomly on the map.
  • Draw roads that lead to the buildings.
  • Add in vehicles.
  • Cut the side of the map and reinforce with black marker.

  • Create theirown personal map using a black marker only.

  • Clarify doubts.
  • Provide assistance to pupils who need more guidance in handling the marker as this is their first lesson on drawing with the marker.

Day 2
