RESOLUTION 2010-165

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING ALAN MOSLEY FOR HIS LONG AND DISTINGUISHED CAREER WITH THE CITY OF JACKSONVILLE UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS DEPARTURE FOR OTHER PROFESSIONAL CHALLENGES; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

WHEREAS, over two separate stints, Alan Mosley served the citizens of Jacksonville for more than 28 years as an employee of the City and of JEA; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Mosley, a professional engineer, began his career with the City in 1974 as an employee of the Public Utilities Department and advanced through the ranks to earn appointment as the City Engineer in 1995; and

WHEREAS, in 1997 when the City’s water and sewer operations were transferred to the JEA, Alan Mosley briefly joined the JEA as a Vice President before leaving for opportunities in the private sector, including serving as President of Koss, Mosley and Associates for six years until being recruited back to City service as the Public Works Director by Mayor John Peyton in 2006; and

WHEREAS, in 2007 Mayor Peyton elevated him to the position of Chief Administrative Officer, with overall responsibility for the successful day-to-day operations of all aspects of the City government; and

WHEREAS, after a long and distinguished career, Alan Mosley has retired from City service to become the Florida Department of Transportation’s District Secretary for District 2 which covers nearly 12,000 square miles in 18 counties; and

WHEREAS, FDOT’s gain is Jacksonville’s loss, as Mr. Mosley’s steady leadership, accessibility and cooperativeness will be greatly missed by the Council and its employees; now therefore

BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Jacksonville:

Section 1. That the City of Jacksonville hereby commends and congratulates Alan Mosley for his long and distinguished career of service to the City and citizens of Jacksonville as he leaves to take up a new professional challenge. The City wishes Mr. Mosley the very best of success and thanks him for his many contributions to the progress of Jacksonville’s city government.

Section 2. Effective Date. This Resolution shall become effective upon signature by the Mayor or upon becoming effective without the Mayor's signature.
