Step into the Limelight 2013
Step into the Limelight is the major Arts showcase event for ACT public schools. Participation is for students in Kindergarten to Year 12 in Dance, Drama, Media, Music and Visual Art. This year we are expecting to involve more than 1600 students from over 65 schools. This year’s theme is ‘Roundabout’ and celebrates 100 years of Canberra.
How Your School Can Be Involved
Feature Acts
This year there is more scope for schools to nominate feature acts in Drama, Dance and Music for the Gala Performance, August 29 and 30 2013 at the AIS Arena. The show looks to provide a balance of work that showcases the very best of Primary Schools, High Schools and Colleges.
We actively invite schools to nominate a performance, in conjunction with Step into the Limelight, which explores the theme topic and/or different aspects of Canberra life and history. There is also space for excellent performances which do not directly meet the theme. All performances need to be suitable for a general audience.
Massed Primary Choir
Primary schools can nominate up to 75 students to participate in the massed primary choir program. Schools will work closely with choir coordinator Rachel Campbell to develop a number of songs for the production.
To register a feature act or choir, go to the Step into the Limelight Webpage http://www.det.act.gov.au/limelight click on Teacher and Student Information and find the appropriate form. Please do so before the end of week 3, term 1.
Art Exhibition
The Step into the Limelight Art Exhibition will take place from July 17 - 27 at the ANU School of Art Foyer Gallery. Teachers will need to nominate artwork in week 7 of term 2 by going to http://www.det.act.gov.au/limelight. Please note the first week of the art exhibition will be in school holiday time.
The production team is constantly amazed by the level of art work on display in school foyers and would love to see some of this excellent work become part of this system wide exhibition. To be eligible for nomination, digital images of the artworks need to be received by week 7, term 2 and have been produced after August 1, 2012.
Film Festival
The Step into the Limelight Film Festival will take place in August at the National Film and Sound Archives. The production team are looking for work representing Primary Schools, High Schools and Colleges. Teachers will need to submit films in week 9 of term 2. To be eligible for nomination, films need to have been produced after August 1 2012. To nominate go to http://www.det.act.gov.au/limelight click on the Film Festival link.
