December 2015 Allied Artists Newsletter

No Meeting in December

Christmas Party will be Wed, December 9th at 6:00pm at ‘Angela’s on the River’ in St. Albans. The deadline was December 1st so if you did not make a reservation, you will have to wait until next year. We will have our fun gift exchange as always. Bring a wrapped gift of your own art or an art related item. We will do the ‘Yankee Trader’ exchange. Lots of fun!! If you want to help with the desserts, call Jerre Watkins at 304-776-5488.

The program for our November meeting was presented by P.J. Dickerscheid of the Culture Center. She and several other people at the Culture Center are new to the Art world of West Virginia and they want to get our feedback on programs, events, etc. that we would like to have available to artists in WV. It was a lively discussion.

We have the opportunity to participate in the December Art Walk (Dec 17th) at the Capitol Conference Center. Other artists will also be there so it will not be an exclusive AAWV exhibit. If you are interested, contact David Simpson by Dec 4th. However, since it is 'first come, first served', you might not want to wait until then. David Simpson, Operations Coordinator, Capitol Conference Center, Phone 304 344-2246, Fax 304 344-5853 . Once you have been accepted by David, please send an email to Deborah Herndon so she can include you in the news release: . If you want to send her an image of your art, send only one image (that she can put on a disk) with name, media, title.

Welcome to our new members that were juried in at the October 3rd New Member Jury Session: Mary Ellen Baughman, Lee Ann Blevins, Deborah Brooks, Darryl Dean, Susan Pauley, Elizabeth Turner, Mary Wiliams, Sandra Willis, Chris Wood.

The Workshop with Richard Stephens was a great success. Thanks to Brenda Beatty for organizing and overseeing the workshop.

We do need some place to store the demonstration mirror. It folds up so that it can be stored fairly easily. However, it will not fit into our storage unit (completely filled up with screens). It would be great to have it at someone’s garage in the Charleston area. If you have a little room and can store this for us, please contact Sandra King at .

Arts Day at the Capitol will be on Feb 22nd. It is always good to remind our lawmakers of the importance of art in the state and in the education system. Mark it on your calendar and consider being there.
