Installing Bar Code Reader & Printer
Installing Bar Code Printer
- See the Cognitive “Del Sol” Quick Start Guide to physically connect the printer to a local PC, load label stock, and prepare for printing.
- Locate the software driver for the “Del Sol” printer using Windows Explorer – it will be available on a shared drive on your network in the R:\MISC directory [we will replicate to the Novell servers at each site in the next few days]. The driver is named “cognitive_printer_drivers.exe”. If the PC on which it is to be installed is a networked PC, it can be installed directly from the network drive; otherwise, it needs to be copied on media that the local PC can read – it will fit on a single 1.4 MB diskette.
- Double click the file name in Windows Explorer to start the driver install process. The drivers will be copied to C:\Cognitive directory on the local machines hard drive.
- In the “Drivers” subdirectory in the “Cognitive” directory, double click on the executable file “prninst.exe” to continue installation. An install window will open.
- Follow the prompts by clicking “Next” you should see a page displaying “Cognitive” as the manufacturer and several printers. Select the “Cognitive Del Sol 2 inch” by double clicking it.
- A “Select port, printer name and language” screen should display. The printer name should be “Cognitive Del Sol 2 inch”, but may be changed to any more meaningful name if desired. Select the “LPT1” port [it will probably be preselected].
If possible, make this the default printer otherwise, the printer settings for the label forms may not be held and whoever prints labels will have to enter these settings every time labels are printed.
Select the appropriate language – English is preselected. Click “Finish” to complete installation.
- If you click “Start”, “Settings”, and “Printers”, you should see the printer on the list of available printers for the PC. If not, the install did not succeed – call technical support in Springfield for assistance.
