Use the spaces below to provide vital information that will be used to create a position description on eGrants/MyAmeriCorps, the online application and recruitment system for all AmeriCorps programs. Before you start: Think about how you would respond to the following questions:

  • What are your summer program(s) goals? How do your program goals align with Summer Reads?
  • What is unique or interesting about your program(s)? Your community?
  • What can you offer a VISTA member with regard to the service experience they will have, professional or personal development opportunities, or other opportunities?
  • Describe your ideal candidate:
  • What experiences would an ideal VISTA candidate have to help you accomplish your goals?
  • What characteristics and values would an ideal VISTA candidate have?
  • What top 3 skills are most important for an ideal VISTA candidate for your position?
  • What other skills, experiences, and/or characteristics would be helpful, but not required, for a candidate to have?

Catchy 2-liner (200 characters including spaces) – This will be the first thing candidates see when searching for positions – this should be a hook to get candidates interested in learning more.

Program Description (2000 characters including spaces) – Describe your organization and Summer Reads VISTA project/site(s), but do not enter specific VISTA duties. Note that formatting, such as bullets or paragraphs, does not translate into posting. You might highlight: How will this project fight poverty? How will the VISTAs make a difference in children’s lives in your community by serving with your organization? What is the mission of your organization? What are the goals of your summer program? What are the demographics of your program participants?

Member skills – What skills would you like potential members to possess? Select as many skills as reasonably apply. Note that applicants can search for positions by skill.
